Keep Busy

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

How many times have you heard, whether on TV or from your doctor, to keep busy? At first, you may wonder if it really works when it comes to weight loss.

When we think of keeping busy we usually relate it to exercising in one form or another. Unless we are an athlete or stay at the gym all day, keeping busy might not be that easy. Keeping busy can come in all forms. Going to sporting events, seeing movies, playing pool or any other game can all be ways that we keep ourselves busy. The only problem with all these events is that they all have food or drinks being served. If we're not careful doing these type of things can really sabotage our weight loss.

Let's face it, if we go to a sports game whether its because we like the team or we are there to support our kids, there is always food there. And who doesn't like to have popcorn with that great movie we are about to see or that drink or two while we play pool. So does keeping busy really help or hurt us?

I know that keeping busy helps me. I am in the process of going to college and so most of my time is spent sitting in my favorite chair and reading or studying. I have had to learn, through trial and error, how to not eat and snack while I'm studying. Getting up and getting out of the house distracts me and helps keep me from food.

If you have trouble with the food when you go out here is a tip that might help you. I know its helped me. Do not bring your debit card or credit card when you go out. As you plan your night out get the cash you need for the night. Get cash for each pool game, for entry into ball game, or for the movie ticket. Pay it all in cash. Do not take so much extra that you have money for the snacks that are there. Limit yourself, kinda like you would if you were gambling in Vegas. If you don't want to lose all your money you only take so much with you to the tables. Let's face it, overeating is an addiction and if we can find a way to do it we will.

With limiting your cash flow, also have a healthy snack before you leave. If you combine the two you have a better chance of keeping on track and not ruining your night with guilt.

Enjoy your next outing and most definitely keep busy!

Great blog, Tammie! And very true! Wonderful idea about the cash, too.
