For the treadmill tells me so...

I was on a mini-streak clear up until Thursday last week. I had gotten out to run on each scheduled day and gotten my mileage in. And then Thursday came along and we started our quest to add another puppers to the family and I allowed myself.. chose.. decided.. to not get my run in on Thursday or Saturday, and did not make it to the gym on Friday. I also bagged Monday's gym visit, claiming to be too tired. Yep, that's right, I was too tired from doing nothing.

Pffft.

Apparently change, even GOOD change, can set me off-kilter and for some reason my brain takes this as a signal to turn into a she-slug for multiple days.

So.. to rectify the situation, I ran 2 miles with Coach Nicole last night.

See, we've had a few days of colder temps and rain, and last night we were suppose to receive several inches of snow. I knew I needed to run - it was imperative, I MUST RUN! But I was feeling whiny and didn't want to go out in the cold and the wet, so I cut myself a deal - use the treadmill and you can go only 2 miles.

I headed downstairs.. what? Yes, I have a treadmill in the basement. I know, you're right. Absolutely right! There's NO excuse not to get my runs done. I know.

So I got downstairs and decided to pop in a DVD to watch while I'm running. It's been far too long since I've been down there, so I checked to see what DVD was in the player. It's Coach Nicole's Fit Firm and Fired Up. Awesome! I still need to find her new DVD at Target soon. Maybe this weekend.

I set the DVD to play all the workouts, turned on the giant oscillating fan, and climbed on the treadmill. So while Coach Nicole was her sunny shiny self leading Sparkers everywhere through awesome workouts, I was running away on the treadmill with music playing on my headphones. I said I wanted to watch a DVD, not listen to one.

2.2 miles and 30 minutes later, I opted to stop. It's been a while since I've been on the treadmill, but it went alright. I used to walk at 3.5 mph and run at 4.0 Last night I walked at 4.0 and ran at 5.0. I appreciate improvement.

Tonight, the gym. No really, I mean it! While I was running last night, Eunice was bouncing around uncontrollably and it made me feel sort of nauseous. Not from the motion, but from the fact that Eunice not only still exists but is so much bigger than she used to be. Sigh. So, ST tonight, with core work to see if I can't whittle my middle back down to what it was, and what it can potentially be. One day at a time, right?

    I so love your sense of humor! Aren't treadmills great? Yep! I just love to see mine sitting there in the corner... LOL! It's not my favorite thing; but I will use mine too in a pinch. Cold and wet being a great pinch!

    Congrats on the workout! I'm on a roll today too. I challenged our team to land the plane today. Seeing as I threw down the gauntlet, I figured I better max out my fitness points for the day today. LOL!

    Nice work, Candy. I've been slacking something awful lately. Only managed to hit my daily steps goal every other day so far this week. Still, it's an improvement. Now I just need to translate my every other day routine into an EVERY day routine. Thanks for the blog!

    Oh baby doll, sounds like we are in the same boat. Those horrible holiday pounds just won't leave! emoticon emoticon .

    Thanks, your comment wasn't "overshare" at all... I have been known to wear mini-pads when I am suffering through coughing spells to avoid embarrassment. Just wasn't expecting this episode "out of the blue" so to speak!

    But I was trying to figure out who this mysterious "Eunice" is??!!?? (If I named my fat anything, it would be a vulgarity ;-)

    OK, now I have to name mine Myrtle...don't you think Myrtle will get along with Eunice? Tho' we want those old hags OUT OF HERE FOR GOOD! Treadmill in the basement, eh? Wish we had a basement to have something in! I totally hear what you're saying about not going out in the elements when it's nasty out. Having the same problem here lately, but not quite as bad a forecast as you all have this week. Hang in there honey. I'm happy you were able to hit the treadmill. I have a few fitness things I do on my Wii or walking DVD's when I don't feel like going out. Trying to get back to them instead of letting them collect dust. Let's work on banishing those ol' hags together! emoticon emoticon emoticon

    Way to go - you're doing great! I loved the she-slug comment. I'll remember that for self-motivation. I do get so many gems from you! I Hope your new pup is as wonderful as he began. I went to my gym this am with the intent to run on the TM and they had added new, individual tv screens to the TMs. Oh me and my reluctance to try new things had quite the argument. I got on it, and ran, and the darn TV thing is so close I can't see out the windows and I can't see the TV unless I wear my reading glasses lol! Grrr... Not sure what I'll do about that problem, but I got my run in. Yea for you and yea for me!

    You certainly don't let a mini-slump get you down! Way to pop back on course emoticon I'm in a bit of a slump/whine-fest with running this week. I got on the treadmill at lunch, but just couldn't keep jogging :-P So I compromised: 20 min jog, 10 min of incline walking, and then I just jumped off and did 15 on the eliptical. Hey, cardio got done, but I really don't want to lose my running mojo!!

    Oh gee, I have the same thing... good things can throw me off just as much as the bad things. I need to keep working on that.

    I love your idea of running with a fitness DVD. I like to do the treadmill with DVDs but I don't always have something new to watch. Next time I'll try running with Coach Nicole too. It's a great idea.

    2 mile run! Way to go! It's nice when our bodies communicate that our physical activity is good-- your mile speed is a great indicator! Have fun at the gym tonight!

    Change is good, but it's also a wrench in the system. Totally understandable that you need re-adjust time. We all go through that. I'm just glad that you didn't beat yourself up about it.

    Oh now I know you have a tredmill in the basement, with a tv and dvd player.... All bets are off when I hear that the she-slug is well slugging... Be warned Coach Skinny B is gonna be on ya... emoticon

    I do understand about the change throwing you for a loop. And this weather well it's been somehting hasn't it. Tonight I think you should wear your swimsuit and snorkle on the way to the gym... you'll be swimming there and back I'm sure.

    I find any change to my routine, good or bad, can throw me off. I have also found that bad habits I thought I had kicked are really just lying in wait. I think it's great that you caught yourself not exercising and decided to make yourself workout on the treadmill. Great improvement in speed too! Keep up the exercise and Eunice will be gone before you know it!
