Ride. Sally. Ride... Why the gym IS NOT overwhelming

I HATE Tuesdays... Tuesdays are my Mondays and Saturdays are my Fridays!

Tuesdays are also Basic Step at the gym! I HATE basic step but somehow I keep finding myself making time to take the class.

About 30 minutes into the 60 minute class, I'm sweating buckets, I feel like I'm about to throw-up and pass out all at the same time, and generally feel like I'm going to die.

All of a sudden while singing the chorus of Mustang Sally with the ENTIRE basic step class, it hit me. It doesn't matter that I am 200 + lbs and about to pass out. It doesn't matter that the girl beside me is 120 lbs. There is a sense of camaraderie between the people in the class.

The men are pushing the women, the women pushing the men, the skinny pushing the fat, and the fat pushing the skinny. There was no judgement as we all sang out "Ride Sally Ride". I caught my second whim and pushed through until the very end.

I don't know if your basic step class sings Mustang Sally but I'm sure that in any class this camaraderie carries on! I know the gym is intimidating. I HATE when a gorgeous, fit, woman gets on the treadmill beside me and begins running. The thing is, she is pushing me without even knowing me. The old woman lifting weights in the corner, the body builder, the runner, the girl that brings weights to step class... they are ALL singing "Ride Sally Ride" you just have to listen.

Don't let the gym overwhelm you, the next time you see that fit girl running 7mph on the treadmill remember she's singing the chorus to Mustang Sally and "Ride Sally Ride"
