Zoey Week 87: April 22 - April 28, 2012

PLEASE KEEP PRAYING FOR A MIRACLE FOR ZOEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zoey Week 87: April 22 - April 28, 2012

While Easter Week is over, certainly the Power of the Resurrection continues to be evident through this season known as Easter Tide, highlighted by the Ascension of Jesus Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. It would certainly be appropriate to pray for and expect a miracle. It looks like we are in need of a miracle.

Dad was able to stay until Monday when Mom returned to CoH.

Zoey and Mom continued to watch the humming bird babies grow using an internet connection. Her friend Rousseau, a talented artist, sent a drawing to brighten Zoey's day. And it did.

Tuesday was the Bone Marrow extraction. Zoey was "Out" for the procedure which went quite smoothly. There was no Physical or Occupational Therapy on Tuesday to give Zoey a chance to rest up from the extraction. Her White Blood count was pretty low so a booster drug was started so she might get photophoreces by the end of the week. Probably due to a drug side effect, Zoey has developed frequent episodes of tremors. Neurology was called in to examine her and recommended a different blood pressure medication which might block the tremors. The new drug was begun later in the week. It's still too soon to evaluate how it's working

Wednesday morning was great. Zoey went to the gym for Occupational Therapy and then to the cafeteria to check out and choose some lunch. Unfortunately in the afternoon she injured her back during Physical Therapy which ruined the day completely. Her exercise program was very limited the remainder of the week.

The combination of increased steroids to battle the GV/HD, pain, and lack of exercise has set back Zoey's rehabilitation program a bit. She's been encouraged to increase her pain medication so she can exercise more.

Her WBC was high enough for a photophoreces treatment on Thursday and again on Friday. Dad drove in from Phoenix late Thursday evening and Mom went home to El Cajon.

A "Family Meeting" was scheduled for Friday morning. Mom would attend via a conference call. Could have been anything from routine to frightening. They've been through several of these over her stay at CoH. You always prepare for the worst news and pray for the best outcome. For sure we knew that the head Oncologist of Zoey's medical team was going on maternity leave and the preliminary results of the Bone Marrow test on Tuesday were in the "Mostly Normal or Low Normal" range. Just the most critical one hadn't been returned yet. Was the HLH present or defeated? Buy the end of the meeting that result still wasn't known. Still the discussion wasn't what was hoped for. The consensus of the medical team was that the neither the Steroid cocktails nor the photophoreces treatments were defeating the GV/HD. The photophoreces treatment being the only thing City of Hope could provide which couldn't be provided by her original medical group Kaiser Permanente. Zoey might be transfered to a Kaiser facility in L.A. where they have a Transplant Specialist who has visited her weekly and well prepared to continue treatment. She'd be in an adult facility there, she's 19 years old. She might be moved to her original Kaiser facility in San Diego. The next week will be critical determining her future care. It looks like we are in need of a miracle.

Just a friendly note: Many who get these updates are getting them 2nd, 3rd, 4th or more down a chain of email. When someone in the chain has a vacation, computer meltdown, or a too busy week, your chain may be broken. You will not get that weeks report. I'd urge you to bookmark the site below where the updates usually appear within a day or so.

Yes, I continue to hold her in my prayers. Also, you might suggest to them that there are webcams from the San Diego Zoo-
    polar bears, elephants, gorrillas, and
panda. They may enjoy watching them
on the internet as well. Hope all's well
    with you.
