It's been two weeks!

I can't believe it's been that long since I've blogged! I guess it's because in that time, I was planning our Girl Scout camping trip to Camp Chowenwaw!
The trip was SUPER FUN! Friday, was a cluster*BLEEP* because pretty much all parents came whenever the hell they wanted. But, that was ok. Most of them came by the 7pm mealtime. The last mom did not show up until 9pm! Of course, we had "teenagers" sharing our camp space. They had the other cabin that we didn't need. Bad idea! Smoking and drinking (as quietly I guess as possible, but through open windows we could still hear) until 4:30! Teeheehee, the girls all were awake by 7 and were not quiet at all! Needless to say, the "teenagers" (I really think they were all, at least a couple, of drinking age lol) were gone by 9 :D
The girls fished, swam, hiked, hunted crickets ("why use bread when you can have these"-my niece, gotta love her!) Earned some badge parts and Journey parts. Ate everything from foil packets, stick meals, and skillet meals on the grill. The moms raved about our food :) Because the girls are Daisy and Brownie level, they really balked about having to help out with all the cooking and cleaning. Some of it, they were ok about, and some of the girls were better than others. Boy, will they be in shock next year when I'm not doing ANYTHING for them! Especially this one that was "sick" anytime she was asked to do anything! ("Then you eat pb and j off a dirty plate!")
Then, Saturday night, ~rolls eyes~ my oldest daughter, Junior age, was with us to help out. She decides she has to pee about midnight. Another mom and I have to go, too, so out the door we went. Kali thinks she sees something (for someone who wants to go hunting with her daddy, she's pretty damn skittish!) and screams bloody murder, running for the cabin. "It's huge, I don't know what it is, but it's huge!" The other mom screams and runs, and I follow (sooooo not GS mom material, I couldn't find my flashlight in the dark!) Wakes up all the moms. We pretty much get most of them calmed down, it's probably just an animal, I saw a deer near our campsite earlier that day. But, this one, VERY PARANOID mom. "What if it's a person? They could have scattered all our dishes (drying outside) just to make it seem like it's an animal!" SHEESHUS! "Don't you think we need to call the cops?" So, I give in! The very nice female officer of the Clay County Sheriff's Office came by (she happened to had been parked right outside the gate to the campground) and pretty much told the mom that she will look around, but highly doubts it's anything but the very big raccoon she saw on her way to our camp. Crisis averted? NOPE she really didn't get much sleep that night, her imagination was running wild. Lesson? TAKE ONLY THOSE PARENTS WHO HAVE HAD CAMPING EXPERIENCE IN ACTUAL WOODS WITH ACTUAL LIVE WILD ANIMALS! Yeppers, even if it means I have to take them with only my co-leader next year!

Thanks, PeaceBunny! Sometimes, it doesn't seem like I "rock" (especially right now with serious financial headaches going on) but it is a fun ride, being a mom :)

I really wasn't a GS type of girl. Last time I went fishing I was these girls' age, about 8, didn't camp, hated bugs. GS, I thought, was about sewing (I sewed, but I hated that, too), camping, and cookies. Nothing I cared to do. Now that I'm GS mom/leader, I love it! GS can pretty much do anything the girls want to do, and for some of the girls in my troop, opens doors that otherwise would not be open for them.

This was actually very funny. I was reading it like I was watching a movie and laughing and smiling. I am not a outside creepy crawly bugs, noises, animals camp type of girl. That said, it sounds like you had an awesome time and this is sure to be one those childhood stories that you recite to your girls when they get grown. If you have been away for this then I'd stay it was funny but worth it. Did I mention that you rock as a mom! emoticon emoticon emoticon
