Withdrawal in my future??

Thursday, May 17, 2012

School is almost out and the grandkids will be home all summer. I might actually have most of the summer FREEEEE.

DD made a decision to take time off from work for a while and she will be doing fun things with the kids this summer. That means I won't be getting up early in the morning to take care of G-Kids. Won't see them everyday for 10+ hours a day, 5 days a week. Miss my little guy's witicisms (age 4.75), going to the pool with the kids, picking up the dirty clothes and doing the laundry. Taking them to VBS, cheer camp, tennis lessons, library for story time, arguing with the 13 yr old about his computer/Xbox time, braiding the almost 11 years old hair and helping her with cooking.

I wonder at what point will I miss seeing them everyday. Probably the first day I don't spend
all day with them.

I might have time to excersie, plan and cook healthy meals, spend time with DH (awww),
catch up on my paperwork, filing a ton of stuff, computer stuff, downloading pics and videos (some 6+ years) from cameras, CLEAN THE HOUSE AND DO THE WINDOWS. Clear out unused items from the basement that I haven't touched since we moved in 12 years ago. Paint and have hung a screen door that was bought at least 8 years ago. Plan for a move that might be in our future if SIL takes a job change to another location 2 states away.

DH and I are taking the G-kids to TN for a week in July. Invited the DD along also since she will be home for the summer. Took them to the same location last year and they had fun, swimming, playing on the playground, going to a couple of attractions in the area and seeing a couple of movies and fishing with G-PA.

I'm planning a huge trip in August. DH and I will be traveling from Atlanta to Wisconsin (his 55th class reunion) heading N to upper Michigan then down to Dearborn, Michigan over the Canadian border and up to Quebec. Into Maine hit the water at Bar Harbor. Try to hit the highlights in all the New England States (did Boston many yrs ago) and make a stop in Gettysburg, PA. Looks like about 3-4 weeks on the road. I want to go into NYC, but DH is leary. DD suggested staying in Stamford, CT and take the train into the city.

When school starts the little guy will be in Kindergarten. Baby days are behind us, he's a Big Boy now. He went to Preschool for ages 2, 3 and 4. He's smart and ready for school now.

That's when the real withdrawal will start, when I will miss seeing them everyday.

It sounds like you have some wonderful trips planned for the summer! My family used to go down to Bar Harbour every couple of years and I have wonderful memories of Cadillac Mountain. :) Enjoy!

My closest grandchildren are two hours away, and the others are 12 hours away. I am a little jealous of my friends who get to see theirs all the time. Enjoy your extra free time.
