Belief, Hope and Focus!!

Wednesday, May 30, 2012

My Boot Camp Church small group leader knows I have an interest in health and fitness and asked me to write a little motivational piece each week for our group. Just thought I'd share them here with my spark friends too! Enjoy!

Belief, Hope and Focus

When it comes to achieving any goal, whether it is weight loss, getting fit, or going back to college, you have to believe that you can achieve what you desire. It sounds like such a simple concept, but when you are talking about weight loss, think about how many times you have said to yourself in your head, “It’s just impossible… I’ll never lose weight… it’s too hard… I’m too old…. I’m too out of shape…. I’ve got no self control… no will power.”
Before you can get serious about achieving your health and fitness goals you have to believe you can do it! It truly is so basic, but has such huge implications. When you begin to believe, every part of your being will begin to work toward achieving that goal you desire to achieve. You now have faith that you will succeed.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. In this Boot Camp journey we are on, our hope is that we are going to lose weight, get in better shape, or just get healthier. The things for which we are hoping can be “seen” before we can actually see them. This goes a very long way in helping us to believe.
God created us with the ability to imagine, to see things in our mind for a reason!! He intends for us to see those things for which we are hoping. That’s why it’s so important to visualize the things you want to achieve. Take a minute right now and see yourself healthy, in shape, with tons of energy, and making good choices. When we do this, we give our faith a place to work. If you can’t see yourself achieving your goals NOW (before you actually do), it will be very difficult to make those things happen. We often think of imagination as something kids have. They believe anything is possible but somehow over time we lose that “power” of imagination and we stop believing. There is something so powerful about movies where it seems the impossible must be done, but the character in the movie is encouraged to just believe and then they are able to overcome. The reason those kinds of movies are so successful, I believe, is that TRUTH resonates in the human heart…. when we see the power of believing!
So how can we apply these things to our journey? Let’s use our imaginations to help us see what we’re working towards and let that in turn help us to FOCUS on what needs to be done each day! Here are a few tips:
• In your journal write out the “STATS” you desire to see (weight, measurements, measures of physical fitness etc.) Remember from last week I mentioned how I even drew a little scale with my goal weight written in.
• Cut out lots of pictures from fitness or other magazines that motivate you and paste them in your journal. Write your thoughts about the picture, like why you like it.
• Put up motivational signs that help to motivate you. I love the ‘HOPE’, ‘FAITH’, ‘BELIEVE’ signs and plaques you can buy almost anywhere (I have all 3!)
• Spend a little time each day “seeing” you taking care of yourself, making good decisions. When you are exercising, “see” excess weight literally melting off with your imagination. Visualize a little pacman eating up fat cells !! :)

Remember, God made us spirit, soul, and body. He desires us to be strong, healthy and well equipped in all three areas to do all He’s called us to do. You are not being selfish spending time taking care of yourself! You are valuable to Him and He is right there to help you believe and achieve all your health and fitness goals.

Next week we will talk more on FOCUS AND THE POWER OF KNOWLEDGE!!!
What you don’t know CAN hurt you!!

Have a great week BELEIVING and SEEING YOUR SUCCESS! 
