My doctor put me on the South Beach diet

I am alive! I am here! And I am disciplined!

I gained all but 9 lbs back (of the 60 lbs I had lost) so I'm beginning my weight loss journey ALL OVER AGAIN. My doctor put me on the South Beach diet and so far, so good. I've lost 9 lbs since May 22 which is pretty great for this old, picky metabolism. But I haven't had a grain, or sugar, or fruit since that date!

I've been eating lean proteins and veggies... abstaining from all sugars and grains and fruits... until the cravings are gone. Then I can allow one high-fiber bread and one fruit back in each day.

Since I have PCOS, I am very sugar-sensitive, even the sugar in fruits and carrots! So the best thing for me is to try to limit those. I won't be able to enjoy watermelon or pineapple this summer because those are VERY high in sugar and off limits for me until I reach my goal weight.

My mother's been in the hospital SIX TIMES since August, so traveling back and forth from Nashville, TN (where I live) to Broken Arrow, OK (where she lives) has caused a strain... plus, she won't eat healthy.... plus I'm a full-time oil painter with very important exhibitions approaching in the Autumn so I am painting through the night to make up for lost time.

Also... my 1980s kitchen decided it had worked long enough for me so I’m in the midst of a kitchen remodel. When my kitchen is finished, I'll invite everyone over for a very healthy, but tasty dinner! (Oh, if you could only make it here!)

I've missed you all!!!!

Anyway, It's humbling to face my weight gain and 'own' it. I really do pray that THIS TIME I won't give up before I reach the finish line!

I understand all those external pressures! My dad had a series of small strokes and, although he's still living in an apt at my sister's with my Mum, he's almost 97 and I'm afraid these are his last days. Dealing with his illness and my own over the last 2 years has been a real strain. And, like you, I have 3 shows I'm preparing for in the autumn and am scrambling to find the time to produce something! Then trying to focus on eating healthy and exercising! It can become overwhelming. But I'm going to do it! And so are you! Glad we're both back. emoticon emoticon

Great to see you here again! Sorry you gained back almost all of the weight you worked sooo hard to lose! That must be very frustrating BUT bravo for getting with your Dr. and taking his advice. I think the SB diet is a very healthy way of eating and there are products available for when you don't have time to prepare a meal from scratch. I really enjoy their frozen pizzas. Of course that would be for when you add back in a healthy bread serving. I believe it's a whole wheat or whole grain crust. Anyway, congrats on the kitchen remodel! I NEED one of those soooo badly myself. lol. Maybe someday soon. Would love to see pics of yours once it's completed. I love getting ideas. Should be wonderful preparing all of your healthy foods in the new kitchen. Hugs.
