Follow-Up to the Laptop Fiasco

Friday, July 06, 2012

I just wanted to write a quick follow-up blog to let everyone know the status of the Laptop fiasco.

If you didn't catch my last blog, my laptop was stolen from my home because my daughter decided to invite some guys into our home that she did not know.

I told my boss on the following Monday that my laptop was stolen, and to my surprise, she was very understanding. In fact, she ordered me a new one immediately. So I should have one by early next week.

I also had my annual review on Tuesday. While my review went well, I did get the news that I may be without a job come December. My job is funded off of Research Grants, which just aren't looking good right now. :-(

So now I am on the hunt for a new job. :(

My daughter did learn her lesson from this. I made her miss 2 days of being up North with her Dad. During those two days, she tried hard to track down the name of the guy who took it. She hasn't had much luck with finding him. But she did spent two entire days trying. I also had a long talk with her about all of this, so hopefully, I won't have to worry about anything like this happening again.

While I lost a lot of work files on this computer, I also lost a lot of personal files as well. I think I am more upset by the personal files lost than the work ones. LOL!!!
I don't have a home computer right now, so I've had to use my work one to store all my personal files. So there was a lot of financial stuff on there as well as other personal stuff. So I've spent the last 2 days changing all the passwords to every single account I have. Boy was that exhausting. Hopefully, I got them all changed in time before this person gets to all my files. And hopefully, this person isn't out to steal identities or anything like that. I guess I can only hope for the best with that part.

Guess I really learned my lesson of not backing stuff up regularly. I will definitely be backing stuff up from now on. And never again, will I leave my laptop on the kitchen table when I'm not home.

Thanks again everyone for the support. You have no idea how much I needed it. I spent 3 days being sick to my stomach. While I still don't have my laptop back, I do feel much better.

HUGS!!!!!!!!!

OMG, I'm so sorry you went through this! And thankfully your daughter is safe, it could have ended a lot differently and much worse.

I'm so glad to hear that your boss was so understanding! I've been worried about you, knowing how upset you were. I'm still sorry about everything that you lost, though. Hopefully, like you said, the person was more interested in the actual machine than in the files that were on it!
Good luck with the job hunt!!

So glad your boss was so understanding and that your review went well. It sounds like your daughter has learned her lesson. I'm sure she'll be more careful in the future.

So sorry to hear that you might be without a job in the fall. I recently lost my job but was lucky that I was able to find something else. And I do like it better than my old job, so that's good. Good luck with your search. I'm sure something will come up!

    Have a great weekend.

Glad to hear things are more positive than you thought with your boss. Hard to know that come the end of the year you could be without a job but at least you have quite a bit of time to look. And you never know what can happen.
I hope everything's ok with you and your daughter. Sometimes it's so tough to be a mom - always trying to let them make their own decisions and living by the consequences, good or bad. But it's part of growing up and they will eventually learn. Just as we do as parents. We get comfortable and forget that the world is still out there. As long as you both are ok, lessons are learned and we can move on. I hope next week will be better. Try to relax and have some fun this weekend. You deserve it! emoticon

I'm so glad that things worked out better than you had expected.
I've been told for the last 3 years that I may not have a job by X date, but I'm still here plugging away. You never know what the future may hold. Maybe this is God's way of pushing you into an even better job :)
