My summer time goals
Tuesday, July 17, 2012
This summer I had some health goals. One was to lose the 15 (give or take, more give than take a couple pounds). Well, that goal is SO NOT getting made. I'm working my b*** off, and I'm gaining weight instead of losing. But here is what I have gained (besides weight, haha) ..................Take a look at this positive list
*Time with my children. We go swimming at least 4 days a week. We have made some great memories, laughing and playing together.
*Goal Met: taught myself to swim. I'm 46 yrs. old and just now can swim without floaties. Every time I tried to learn before, some jerk would almost drown me and my fear levels would go right back up, therefor I never learned.
*Goal Met: learn to float/swim on my back. I am a strong swimmer on my back. Great exercise for the legs! I might add that my legs are looking GOOD!
*Goal Met: learn to swim underwater. I am now at the stage of learning to dive for a baton. One of us throws it, and we all GO FOR IT. My daughter taught me how to touch the bottom of the pool by sticking my b*** up, and how to come back up without panicking. My kids have been such great cheerleaders.
*I get a GREAT workout in the water. I do 100's of crunches in the water and have added twisting crunches (to get those stubborn 'love handles'). Crunches in the water are so much easier on my back. AND because of all the crunches I do in the water, I can now do 20+ leg lifts on the Captain's Chair. I make up exercises/stretches to do and leave the pool an hour later with wobbly legs and feeling like I really accomplished something all while having fun with my kids.
*Not only are my legs looking great, but I can see some beginnings of muscle definition in my arms. I use water weights to work my arms.
*Things that used to be hard (or impossible) are now easier or just plain 'easy cheesy' (as I tell my students in school).
*Since we have a membership that allows us 24/7 access to the gym, sometimes we go at 9:00 at night. We have the whole place to ourselves (usually). This really works ...since we're night owls. Again, this gives me time with my children.
*One of my next fitness goals: To be able to do chin ups. I've never been able to do one. Someday....... I WILL!!!!
There are many more positives....however, the bottom line is:
1) All that great time with my kids...the memories they will have
2) That I am STILL MOVING!
