I survived IHOP!

Saturday, July 28, 2012

Ok. Maybe not a huge deal for some, but for me, this is HUGE!!!! I SURVIVED IHOP!!!!!

I love IHOP. It's a fact. Maybe because I only discovered the place in my 30's, I don't know...I just know it is a very happy little addiction!!! emoticon The only good thing about my addiction, is that none of my friends love it. I have one friend who does, but the others don't. This means I am saved from myself and we don't eat there often. The last time I ate there was probably 6 months ago after a 5K.
On to today....My sole IHOP loving friend, and I decided to go out for breakfast to IHOP. We planned it yesterday so I had time to come up with a plan, and not beat myself up about it later. I was ready!
I ordered the Original pancakes with very crispy bacon. Anyone who has eaten there knows that depending on the size of your order the plate either comes with 3 or 5 large pancakes. Well, I got the 3 pancake plate...Fear not, I didn't eat them all. As soon as my order arrived, I tossed the top pancake on my friend's plate (he had eggs). Then I happily ate my two pancakes, with as little syrup as possible, my bacon and several cups of coffee. When I was done. I was really proud of myself. Yes, pancakes and bacon are not great for me by any stretch of the imagination, but I was proud for a different reason. I allowed myself to indulge in a planned 'bad' food, while not over eating to the point of grossness. In the past, I might have eaten all 3 pancakes, not because I was hungry per se, but because I love the taste, and they are on my plate. Then beat myself up about it for hours, if not days. So, in my mind, I did good!!

So, today's learned lessons:
1) If you are going to indulge in something bad - plan for it
2) You can enjoy something without having to eat the whole plate
3) Sharing with others helps the waistline!

Just thought I would share!

So smart! This is exactly how to develop a habit of moderation. (Just need to repeat about a hundred times. The time is going to pass anyway.)If you can never go out for some pancakes, something's wrong. I still remember an order of cheese blintzes I ate at IHOP 40 years ago!

Congratulations on a job well done! I also love me some IHOP (it's just sooooo gooooood!!) and I firmly believe that depriving yourself of something you love is just another form of setting yourself up to fail. You did exactly what I would do - plan it out, anticipate it, and stick to the plan! You got to enjoy something you love, and you're on still on track!
