With a Little Help from My Friends

Thursday, August 16, 2012

SparkFriends, I need your help!

I’m running my first half marathon on Sunday, and would LOVE to take my Spark Buddies with me. Hey, you’ve all gotten me this far!

What would help immensely is to have a few happy thoughts or running tips from you all to repeat to myself when the going gets tough. A favorite song to sing, remind me to stop slouching, or just positive vibes.

Please (PLEASE!!) comment with your favorite mantras, tips, songs, happy thoughts… anything you think will help get me through 13.1 miles. (The .1, by the way, is straight uphill. Bonus points for anything that motivates me up that sucker and across the finish line.)

I'm a bit late with this, because I went MIA on here for a while. Congrats on the big achievement though! emoticon

For YOU, I'd say remember your foot landing focus and try to keep light without the extra bounce, what helped you have that power run. Shoulders relaxed... relaxed controlled breathing... keep your pace, and ATTACK when needed ;) especially the hill at the end! stay +!

My favorite is the song Stronger, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I also believe in my ability and know trust the training plan will get you to where you need to go.

I also love Titanium. "Bullet proof, nothing to lose fire away fire away,I am titanium"

You can do it! I think this quote might be appropriate:

I’m not telling you it is going to be easy—I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it.

I'm not a runner but I'm wishing you all the best! I know you'll be great. When the going gets tough, keep pushing so you can tell us all about it after you've crossed the finish line!
PS I got my mini bike for school and a ball to use as my chair. Here we go!

Just remember Dory from Finding Nemo:
[singing] Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming. What do we do? We swim, swim.

Or in your case Just keep running!

At first I wasn't sure what I was going to say here as a "tip" because I have never ran a half marathon. Then you mentioned the hill... And I remembered when I started adding hill intervals in June. You know when they got easier? When I started picturing myself running up the hill that I have to go up to get to my kids schools after that whole bully incident with David! I kept thinking about how fast I would run up there if I knew those boys had my boy in the bathroom like that again! So If staying happy and positive doesn't work the whole time, then get angry lol ; )!

I've never run more than a 5k and I was smoked on that one so, I don't have any advice to share. But I did want to stop by and wish you the best. Let us know how you fair. I'm sure you've prepared. Now all you have to do is get it done. Think about how you'll feel crossing that finish line! Amazing!!!

For me personally it is just staying focused on the run and ignoring my body. Our bodies can make us think we can't do something, when in fact we can. Just focus on the music, my favorite is We are the champions by Queen, and remember that you can do it!!
