8 dog day.. Aug. 20

I'm amusing myself by thinking about my own personal 'dog days of summer' here. Heh.

Aug. 20 nutrition:
4:30 am
2 cups coffee
4 tbsp creamer
1/2 serv. vanilla protein powder

7:30 am
2 Van's gluten free waffles (I'm not gluten intolerant or anything like that. I just find these waffles to be extra crispy and yummy. The calorie count, though, is higher than I should indulge in)
1 Chobani low fat greep pineapple yogurt

9:30 am
20 seedless grapes

11:30 am
1 large banana
1 large La Tortilla high fiber low carb tortilla
1 serv. almond walnut butter
1 Frigo ligiht string cheese

2:00 pm
1 medium apple
1 serv. almond walnut butter

7:30 pm
1 Costco salmon burger
1 cup steamed broccoli
1/2 cup Near East mushroom couscous

8:00 pm
6 oz chicken breast

Calories In: 1772 (2 calories over my range!)

Interesting deficit.

Now that analysis is devoid of emoticons. I'm dubious about my numbers. I agree with the calories in, that's always been pretty accurate, as long as I track accurate. My calories out, though, I'm wondering about. I did not wear my BB last night when I went OHS dog walking. I have in the past, and a typical 2 hour, 120 minute session, burns me about 750 calories.

750 cals/120 mins = 6.25 cals/min
6.25 c/m * 150 mins = 937.5 cals

So that's the math. I worked my bootay off walking 8 dogs last night (that's the most dogs for me in one session so far). The crew was short 5 regular team members, but I'm not a regular, so I helped offset the short-handed-ness somewhat. Even still, I'm suspect of that 900+ number. I recorded it, and next time I'll make a point of having my BB with me. If I'm going to count that activity as cardio, I need to accurately measure it.

The trail we take the kennel kids on is down a steep paved path that then turns to woodchip. I haven't measured the distance of the entire thing yet - I'll take my Garmin along at some point to do that I suppose. I had a variety of dogs last night, from a little itty bitty girl who was a nice slow pokey walker, to a bundle of energy boy that dragged me every step of the way, and I was jogging! I wonder if I can also count this as resistance/strength training? LOL

I do love those kids an awful lot. I watch the website each day to see who gets adopted, and what new kids arrive. I've found that when one of my favorites gets to go to their forever home, it's a bitter-sweet moment. I'm thrilled for them of course, but know I'll miss them. I've also discovered the more tired/stressed I am, the more chatty I am with the dogs LOL They're great listeners and don't mind if I ramble on. Thank goodness.

    One thing I love about my dogs is that they never tell me to hush up. They look at me sometimes like they wish I would, but they never, ever say it. LOL

    I'm so glad you can do that for the pups. They deserve some attention too! And luck them, they have you!

    I agree with your math. It seems like you should have gotten more calories burned than that. I'll be excited to see what the BB says!

    The calories out sound reasonable based on your past history, but it will be interesting to see what it is next time you do a similar time/distance with your BB. Have you ever charted your route somewhere like MapMyRun or the fitness tracker here? That would give you a rough idea of the distance. Pups are great therapists; they listen without offering advice or judging, and that's a good thing!
