Well, Why Didn't I think of this Sooner

Monday, September 03, 2012

So, trying to eat healthy while running around doing errands and shopping has always been an issue, especially because I do not have a car and I do everything on the bus or from my bicycle. Last week I ended up in Costco's food court and ate a turkey wrap that I later found out had over an entire days worth of sodium and over 800 calories!! (The salad is not TOO bad, if you don't use their dressing)

Well, today is Labor Day, and I wanted to go to Savers for their half off sale. The thing is, when they do these sales, you have to get there when the doors open if you want the good stuff. I was looking for work out clothes and some skirts for work. They opened the doors at 8:30am and I was walking out the door at 10:10am. I had to wait about half an hour for the bus, and then I needed to stop at the Vitamin Shoppe. Since I was there, I decided to stop at Target, too. By the time I got to target, it was about 11:30am and I was Starving. I had about $5 in cash on me, and I no longer carry a debit card or an ATM card. That REALLY limited my choices if I went to any of the nearby restaurants or fast food places. Then "light bulb" ding! Target now has groceries! I bought a Fresh Express bag salad and a bottle of reduced fat salad dressing. Open bag, add dressing, hold the top closed and shake to mix, and Voila! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticonLunch for under 200 Calories, less than 300mg of sodium, and 4 veggie servings.

Then to celebrate my stroke of genius, I then bought an emoticonat McDonald's. emoticon What can I say, the bus stop is right in front, I had to wait 15 minutes for the next bus, and the cones are only 59 cents. So tempting.

Great way to solve a lunch problem!

I so hear you on the bike and bus - I did it for 6 months. The hardest part for me was the cat food! I'm so glad I have a car again. Although it means I haven't been biking as often, it does mean I'm going to more Zumba classes. And I'm back to cooking more at home, instead of eating out, since I can get more food back to the house.

Hi. I also have to take the bus but I don't have a bike yet. The salad was a stroke of genius. WTG on creative thinking. The ice cream, well, I don't know the calories but I bet it fit into your days calories ok. Thank goodness no ice cream where I can get to it. LOL
