2nd Sunday of Advent ...light the second candle

Today our church lit the Bethlehem candle..the second purple one in our wreath and talked of the meaning of heritage, the linage of David and idea that Bethlehem means 'house of bread' and Jesus is the 'Bread of Life'
Some wreaths have various colored candles but all will light the second candle today

At home, traditionally the oldest child would light the second candle and it represents
Peace...we talk of the angel announcing the birth, the star leading the way, the gifts brought and the shepherd's crook reminding of how they gave of themselves and came quickly to adore the Christ child.

Some of our Spark friends celebrate Hanukkah starting last evening for eight days.. I enjoy the celebration of lights in teaching children of the Messiah and that it is completed in Jesus. We had lattkes and applesauce for dinner last night and played Hanukkah music just to share a bit of their tradition.
