Raw adventure in Florida (and other musings)

Wednesday, January 09, 2013

Yesterday I took D out to a place called Wheat Berry for lunch/dinner. It's one of those fancy-pants healthy places that sells fresh juices, vegan and raw options, as well as a few meat-eater-friendly choices.

D ordered a chicken wrap and I decided to go the vegan/raw route and have raw flax crackers with guacamole to share (not a hard choice to make there), and I also ordered their raw pizza made with sunflower seed sprouts, pesto and nut-cotta (ricotta made of cashews for those who don't know). I also ordered a kale-apple-cucumber-celery juice. It was a huge meal and, while I didn't know the nutrition info of my meal, I definitely know I went way over on calories based on sheer volume. Also, what is raw pizza crust made of? If I didn't know it was raw I wouldn't have known at all. I wish they had the nutrition info available.

I have been making a fair effort to get on my treadmill daily, and on at least a few days per week get in some dumb bell work as well as squats. Plenty of stretching too since I am still experiencing discomfort/occasional pain in the sciatica area. Today I just did walking because I have been over-eating my breakfast of mini-yukon gold potatoes baked with apples and Gimme Lean veggie sausage. I thought it was going to turn out terrible and here I am picking at it. Well. I don't think I overdid it too bad, to be honest, though I sure couldn't run with that big ol breakfast in me. Now that I'm done with my mile and a half walk I've lost all interest in picking.

I worry that my joints are all messed up where my legs meet my hips/groin, but think that maybe it is just because I have an overactive imagination and these symptoms will disappear once I lose five or ten pounds. On the one hand I worry that I have some kind of nerve problem outside of my sciatica (runs in the family), and on the other hand I think I am over-thinking it... though when I was taking a ballet/pilates class last year I had a couple of occasions when it felt that maybe I had pulled or was about to pull something in the same area while doing pliƩs.

Anyway I just wanted to check in (helps so much in staying focused on my goal/s). That and I have to go to school.

Hope everyone is having a beautiful morning.

You may have slipped a disc and now have inflammation between them. That is what happened to me. I had to go to a chiropracctor for like four sessions, do specific stretches and had to go to light workouts for four weeks. It is nearly non-existent now.

Gentle stretching, pilates style work outs and losing weight can all help with the hips and sciatica. Spark has a few great videos and I've done a few stretching ones just before bed, I usually sleep great fell wonderful when I wake up.
