until baby Tabitha arrives. I'm pretty set on the name now, so I guess it's ok to announce it. My DH and I have been calling her that for a while now, so I hope we don't change our minds! Being a teacher, I have so many names crossed off the list because they remind me of students, but there are no students at my school with that name so I don't associate it with anyone. (And that was hard to do...I teach elementary music to about 550 students). I also love the shortened version -- Tabby. Cute, I think. If you don't agree, don't say anything, lol! I'm so attached to my name that I don't want anyone to ruin it for me.
The nesting and baby preparations have taken control of my life. Although I feel like a bad teacher, at work I'm mentally "checked out", so to speak. Luckily I have many folders of lesson plans I've used before so I feel ok going on autopilot for a while. I feel like there's so much to do at home that it's hard to focus on work, too. I will probably only work for about a month longer before I take leave, which will be for 6-8 weeks. The good thing is I once I return, I only work until the beginning of June before I will be on summer vacation until mid-August. I think it's good that I'm working though, because otherwise I would be monumentally lazy. I get a good bit of exercise walking the halls (mostly to find the closest unoccupied bathroom), and dancing, singing and working with kids throughout the day.
Keeping active at work has been good for my health and keeping my weight gain under control (somewhat). I've stopped checking the scale at ALL because it was driving me insane, though. I look when I go to the doctor's office and that's it. I cannot focus on that right now. I do my prenatal yoga when I'm feeling tight and achy, I stay on my feet at work with kids all day, and lemme tell ya, all this cleaning has got to do a body good! I cannot get my apartment clean enough! It's neverending. My goal for tomorrow is to clean out my kitchen cabinets, wipe down the insides, and put down new liners. It seems there's always a new project for me to handle on the weekend.
Speaking of busy weekends, I'm exhausted from today! My DH and I got up early and went to an infant care class this morning. I thought that the class would mostly be for my husband, but I learned a lot, too! There are some interesting things about babies!
Stuff I didn't know:
1) Babies can sometimes emit a discharge from their nipples after birth.
2) Their genitals are swollen after birth due to maternal hormones
3) Babies gag very easily after birth because they may have fluid lodged in their throat so you may have to suction it out with a bulb
4) When babies are dehydrated, you may find a yellowish powder in their diapers that looks like brick dust
5) Female babies can have a "mini-period" after birth, or bloody discharge from vagina
6) Medicaid does not pay for circumcisions anymore... not that it applies to my situation, as I don't have Medicaid nor am I having a boy.. just seemed sort of interesting that these days even the government considers circumcision to be purely cosmetic and unnecessary.
I thought I knew a good bit from babysitting my five nieces and nephews, but wow... some of that stuff seemed freaky to me!
Anyway, after attending that class, DH and I went grocery shopping and to the baby consignment shop to look at swings and clothing. I didn't find a swing that I liked, but I did pick up at couple of lap gowns with mitten cuffs for $5. Sweet deal.
I finally have the baby furniture moved into the bedroom. That happened today. My husband is a good little fixer-upper, and we bought a used entertainment center for cheap a week ago. He installed shelves inside and now we are using it as a cabinet for baby clothing and accessories. It's now finally in the bedroom next to the bassinet. I put in a ton of little plastic bins for clothing storage. I organized all my baby stuff and realized that there is so much more that I need to get! It's overwhelming. Luckily I still have a baby shower that is hosted by my coworkers so hopefully I will be able to accumulate some more things I need before Tabitha arrives.
I hope everyone is doing well! I have been trying to keep up with everyone's fitness and weight-loss blogs even though I feel really "out of the loop" right now. I can't wait until I get back to normal and get to use my jogging stroller. It's sitting in my living room calling to me! I really don't want to let this pregnancy be an excuse to return to my overeating, sedentary ways. I want to be an active, fit mom outside playing with her child instead of watching from the sidelines.
