I joined Sparkpeople on January 19, 2011. I learned of the website from a friend of mine who was using it as well. I think my starting weight was around 257 pounds. My first day on Sparkpeople I tracked my calories at 1600 plus and got 11 sparkpoints. For some reason, probably because I wasn't ready to change my way of thinking, I was only active for about a month. My last day of tracking food was February 16, 2011.
Fast forward a year to January 1, 2012. I decided last year it was time to make a change in my life. I think the deciding factor was a trip my sister and I were planning to Ireland. At that time I didn't want to have to ask for a seat belt extender on the plane. So I weighed myself on January 1, 2012, had Sparkpeople send me my log in information (because of course I couldn't remember it) and started my journey again. My starting weight on January 1, 212 was 267 pounds.
Somewhere in this process, my thinking has changed. Diet is no longer in my vocabulary. I'm living a lifestyle and it will have to be for the rest of my days God gives me here on earth. One thing I have changed it the word "never". I try not to use it. I try not to say "I'll never eat (fill in the blank) again". I try really hard to do all things in moderation. Do I have triggers? Sure I do. Have I had binges? Yep there have been a few. But I haven't given up this time. I really do try to get back on track the very next snack, meal, day whichever it is and coming to Sparkpeople has been instrumental in helping to achieve that goal.
The accountability, having to post my weight every week is huge. The encouragement from other member; there is no price I can put on that, it truly is priceless. I don't have hundreds of Sparkfriends, that's not who I am. I have a few who are faithful in liking my activity or posting on my Sparkpage, or commenting on a blog. Words can't express how much that means to me.
Lynngettinthin, thank you for your continued support. We are about the same age, live in the same state and are on the same track weight wise. You are a true blessing to me.
Eowyn2424, you were my first Sparkfriend. I haven't been very supportive, but I still "lurk" on your page and enjoy reading your blogs. I pray for you and your health issues.
LAC936, I appreciate you activity. Again, I lurk and read but don't say much. You are a continued inspiration.
Jessicabooty, you're a relatively new friend. Thank you for your blogs. I enjoy reading them.
So far using Sparkpeople tracking and accountability, I have lost 55 pounds. I still have a ways to go, about another 40 pounds or so. I know I can do this and that it will take time. But I know I could NOT have done it without the support from the friends, members, and coaches here on line.
Thank you all, I appreciate it more than you will ever know. God bless you all.
