Ways to make my life better

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

I liked Cannie's blog about a hundred small ways to make her life better. Here are my ways to make myself feel better emotionally, mentally and physically.

1) Be in the bed by 8:00 every night.

I know this sounds extreme, but lately I cannot get enough sleep. I like getting into bed early with my husband, having him rub my belly and feel Tabitha move, and talk about life and how things are about to change. It's a great end to my evening.

2) Wear sneakers to work.

I usually wear dressier shoes, but I'm over it. I have less leg/back pain when I wear my sneakers, so I'm going to wear them every day with my dress clothes. I DARE someone to say something, lol... I'm sure everyone will understand. This seems like a small one, but I think it will make a big difference.

3) Eat smaller portions, and limit my carbs and sweets even more than I have been doing.

Stupid gestational diabetes. I don't wanna give birth to a 10-pounder. I've got to do better than I'm doing. Especially with the carbs. I'm a bread junkie.

4) Treat my husband with respect and do nice things for him when I can.

The poor man is doing LOTS of nice things for me, but I have been treating him kind of badly. I'm so cranky that it's hard to remember that he's working hard to help us get ready for the baby, and even though he's not pregnant, he's probably a little anxious and needs some love, too.

5) Drink lots of water.

Obviously. Don't wanna swell up.

6) Read. A lot. With my feet up.

7) Spend less time on Facebook.

My life may not be glamorous, I may not have a two-story house with a picket fence (I wish), but I am very happy. I've got to stop comparing my life with the lives of others. Money is tight, things are hectic, but you know what -- life is good!

8) Stop worrying so much about whether or not I'm prepared enough for the baby.

The baby will come whether I'm prepared or not, whether or not my bag is packed, whether or not my apartment is spotless, whether or not I've taken all the right classes, whether or not I have X amount of baby Really. I'm insane. I've got to get over it. She'll get here and I'll be in love and everything will work out.

I love my night time talks and belly rubs with my husband. He doesn't go to bed until midnight, but for some reason that's the time of 'day' I"m most awake. I still go to bed with him and at least lay there talking, rubbing, etc, until he falls asleep. I need to get on a better sleep schedule. Lately I'm so tired I just lay down whenever I can't keep my eyes open. I feel like a cat lol. Hope your ways help you out! Sounds like a good plan!

Sorry to hear about the gestational diabetes, but so happy to know that you are feeling so positive. I'm always surprised when people say things like "We'd like to have a baby but we just aren't ready yet..." No one is EVER ready :)

I'm pretty sure my few years of teaching in heels is responsible for the back pain I feel now, and I wasn't even pregnant.

Thanks for checking in, it's fun to hear how things are progressing.

A baby joyfully, lovingly welcomed is in a perfect home. By the way, thanks for the shout-out and I am glad you liked my "100 things" blog. I LOVE your list. Let me share a little something with you about Facebook. People put up their shiny, cleaned up outsides and then others compare their messy insides - not a fair comparison. Let me also tell you this -if a mother posts photos of children who are clean and smiling and happy, in a home that is perfectly clean and organized, doing lovely tasks like crafting sweet little things and baking delicious cookies.....SHE IS A LIAR! Okay, not a complete liar but she ain't telling the whole truth, honey. Mommying is a messy business. Sometimes the house is a mess, the kid(s) is cranky, the momma is a tired bag of hormonal mood-swings, the only baking going on is a take&bake pizza, and the closest thing to a craft project is whatever the cat or dog just threw up on the floor! I don't mean to scare you because there are LOTS of lovely, lovely moments with children - moments so beautiful you think your heart will burst. Those moments will never be adequately captured by a FB post or a photo, but will be forever captured in your heart. So, get some rest, read a book, love on your man, wear those tennies, and be good to your amazing body - home of a miracle. emoticon
