A question of calories-

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

I've just had dinner (and boy was it good!) and I wonder to you all: When you measure out your 2 tbsp of dressing (I used Newman's Own Olive Oil and Vinegar), what about the dressing left at the bottom of your bowl/plate, and the calories therein? Do you recalculate just in case you might be spared 50 calories to indulge in something fabulous? A chocolate drizzled strawberry maybe?

Ha-ha, I always count the whole amount but it sure is tempting sometimes to recalculate and go for that extra scoop of ice cream.

Maybe you could add the dressing to your salad as you eat it.......I mean dip the fork into the little pre-measured bowl of salad dressing. Then you would know how much you really used and that would give you an opportunity for eating something additional and fabulous. I agree that some of what is left at the bottom of the salad could be diluted with water and would make it look like there was more dressing left over than you thought. Or maybe try using a salad dressing that has 0 balsamic vinegar.

I always count the whole amount-- unless there is a HUGE amount leftover and not eaten. If it's a possible +/- 50 cals, I leave it. If it's over 100 cals, then I would count it, but that would have to be a huge amount of dressing-- and also assuming that the ONLY thing that's left over is dressing-- salads tend to have water in them too which might dilute the dressing so what you see as leftovers might not be just dressing, ya know? As long as you're within range, you're doing the best you can...

I always count the whole amount, whether or not I actually end up eating it. I feel like I probably underestimate stuff now and again, and that way it all evens out. The same if I leave part of a piece of toast or part of a bun or something. The only time I recalculate is if I have not eaten a substantial part of a meal, like half a piece of meat.

If there is enough to scrape and measure sure otherwise I don't I just go by the 2 tbsp.
