Doctor Day

Friday, February 08, 2013

I was looking forward to going to the doctor's office today but also a little nervous. I had a list a mile long about the different symptoms I have had. She was somewhat understanding but I felt like I was being judged and that I was making excuses (This is in my head). She asked me what one thing did I want to focus on...I said my weight gain was really bothing me. It turns out I only gained 5 pounds since last year. Unfortunately I had lost some last spring so it truly was a much bigger gain than that. Anyway I told her I was tracking my food and walking everyday. I told her I was eating the calorie amount that was recommended by Spark People...her reply was it is too much. She said if I truly want to see any results I needed to eat no more than 1000 calories. I was kind of blown away because most plans say to eat not less than 1200 calories ever. Her recommendation was that if I wanted to eat at 1200 then I needed to get at least 45 minutes of exercise EVERY DAY! I've talked to many doctors over the years and none of them ever said that.

Feeling frustrated but will think about the info I have received.

Sounds like your doctor doesn't know what she's talking about. Is your doctor overweight?

I can't see going below a 1200 calorie a day diet unless you are extremely petite or short, and even then at your current weight that seems like too little. If following the SP ranges exactly is not working for you, then maybe try reducing it by 100-200 calories at the most and doing that for a few weeks. More importantly, find a different doctor if that one makes you feel uncomfortable or is saying something that sounds suspicious. Just because there is an M.D. in their name doesn't mean they aren't lacking some sense and knowledge. Don't be afraid to stand up for yourself emoticon Good luck!

Yeah....I'm not feeling like this is something that is for me. I was just so surprised. I have always heard to never go below 1200. I will definitely up the exercise though!

I wouldn't go by that. I would ask for a second opinion. Wishing you lots of luck.

Wow... I'm not sure I trust that advice. Upping your exercise isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you have to fuel your body and I'm not sure 1000 calories is enough to do that.
