Putting my head down..

Monday, February 18, 2013

I'm sure I've used that as a blog title before, because it's an important phrase for me.

When I'm tired, when I've been going for a while, when things get a bit tougher, this is what I do. I put my head down and keep going. If it's raining. If it's hot. If it's uphill. If it's a struggle.

Put your head down and keep going.

I'm not down. I'm not down on myself, and I've not lost my enthusiasm. I'm a bit funky today, yes. I do feel the need to stop concentrating too far ahead and just watch my feet making forward progress - both physically and metaphorically.

We'll resume examining my nutrition efforts tomorrow. Yesterday was not my best day, thanks very much hormones and grumples. Onward to a better day today.

Oh yea - another positive trait? I'm stubborn. Sometimes I prefer to call it being determined.

I like this method too. Works for me - lately I've been getting some of my best thinking done when I walk...just one foot in front of the other, head down.

Now, now! It's not stubbornness, it's strong spiritedness! :-) That's what we always called it with our oldest ever since she was a little tyke and everyone told us she was so stubborn. Of course, now at 33 she is a licensed clinical psychologist with her PhD! Yep, strong spirited, just like you!

This blog was timed so perfectly. It reminds me to harness my own stubborness and use it for good (achieving goals) and not sabbotage (getting pouty and eating poorly out of spite).

    Thank you.

That's good, simple advice: put your head down and keep moving forward. emoticon

I prefer tenacious or unyielding-- and I see you as both of those. You don't have to compromise your goals because of a funk-- you plow through it, own it and be done with it.

Sometimes eyes on the prize is NOT the great way to go-- when you're tired or feeling down, things exaggerate. The long walk to the car is now EPIC. Left foot, right foot-- you can do that. It's in your sights, and always will be. I echo your feelings, and I'm glad that you shared this, because I need a little "left foot, right foot" right now myself.

Sometimes putting our head down is all we can do. It's not our favorite times, but we usually come out the other side in a much better place.

    Love your determination!

Wishing you a super-short period of head-down focus and many brighter days on the other side.

Really funny about this blog. I remember your blog about 'putting your head down' and the relation to many different things. One of them being how you get through that hard part of a run.... With all that I'm doing right now I have quite a few of those moments, while running, and while bike riding. I find that for me it's the mental of that light post, or the top of that hill is sooooo far away... if i look at the ground and focus on my stride, and my breathing and my form I don't focus on how long it's seaming to take to get some place. And then as I'm watching the ground go under my feet I think of YOU! Yes YOU! You and your head down blog. True story and now you write about it again.

Amen, sistah... wish I had had the fortitude to do thus during Sat's ride. Failure doesn't leave a good taste in my mouth.

Thank you for the reminder. I too need to just keep my head down and press forward when the going gets tough. Stubbornness is one of my traits too, although I'm not sure if it's always positive. I guess most of the time it is. I've been told that I'm too stubborn for my own good.

I hope you get through this funk and are feeling better soon. emoticon

Us stubborn folks rule! Even if it takes us a little bit longer.... LOL!

Hope your funk passes soon. Take care of yourself!
