Santa Clarita Fire

Sunday, June 02, 2013

Yesterday the smoke was off in the distance, so we decided to take a drive out to Elizabeth Lake. We got as far as the famous Hawk tree, which is about 15 mins. from us. You could see the smoke from there.

Male Hawk was near the tree. He sure is a handsome bird.

Kingbird was right above me.

We decided to continue on to the lake. We were almost there, when I spotted a cute Donkey with two Horses. I just had to stop.

We turned onto the road that winds over to Elizabeth Lake. Over the hill is the fire.

We parked our car on the street by the lake, and started walking the path. Sarge and Alice were with DH. Helicopters were getting water from the lake.
When we first started walking they were getting water from the middle of the lake. I liked this idea because I could walk a bit to the west of the Helicopters, and stand so the sun was behind me.

But before we could get to where I wanted to be, they started getting water from the end of the lake.

I found another path that led to the shore of the lake. I was looking into the sun, so I am surprised the pictures turned out as good as they did. It looks like the Helicopters were surrounded by fog, but that is the water flying up from the power of the blades.

Fire Plane

It was nice to see a few Poppies.

We decided to go. While we were walking the path, we came across a man walking his dogs. I wanted to dog nap this one. Oh so sweet, and such beautiful eyes. He gave Sarge a kiss, and vice versa.
