July 18, 2013 Mom's Birthday

Friday, July 26, 2013

Mom (Lung Cancer Stage IV) was scheduled to come next week, however, she was having some pain and thoughts she was having a heart attack. I got her in early for a doctors appointment and we found out that her lung was full of fluid again. This has already been drained before. Surgery was scheduled on her birthday, two days later. It was suppose to be an outpatient surgery however, she ended up having to stay in the hospital five days. Her lung was not adhering to the lining and she had a small hole in it. They drained over 2 liters of fluid and put in a catheter so my dad could drain her lung from now on. It was a challenging week for all of us. My dad has done amazing however, he started having some blood pressure issues the day after her surgery and vertigo problems. I had mom's nurse take his blood pressure and it was 218/108. I was told to take him to the Urgent Care, five minutes later, they took him by ambulance to another hospital. I had both parents at different hospitals. :( I have three brothers that are all in Dallas so I have been the caretaker! Despite all the stress and anxiety, both parents are out of the hospital and doing ok. Mom has chosen to take another chemo pill which is causing some severe diarriah and appetite loss. There are no words to express how difficult the past 27 months have been. I can't express how thankful I am to have a place on Sparkpeople that I can escape to read blogs, watch videos, learn a new exercise and check on my favorite sparkers! Thank you for all the people that have helped make a difference in my life. emoticon emoticon emoticon

So sorry to hear all this. How are they (and YOU!) doing now? I went through alot when I stayed with my sister in hospice, but it was only 5 weeks, not 27+ months.

Wanda your family has gone through hell and I am amazed by your strength and in particular your mum's courage.
    You're all in my prayers.
Please remember to find time for you You need it for your sanity and well being. Shame your brothers aren't nearer to share the load- it seems that happens with most families these days. Used to be a time when families would come together.
Feel free to spark-mail me if you need to offload emoticon emoticon
