Old Fool

Tuesday, July 30, 2013

It's true, there's no fool like an old fool!

In my attempt to find some exercise options for when I go back to school I've been checking out some evening classes at the gym. Yoga last night was great.

Tonight I tried a kettle bell class. I should have taken my first clue when I realized I was twice as old and twice as heavy as anyone else in the class! I expected it to focus on weight training, but didn't realize how intensely aerobic swinging those weights is for an old fat woman. The instructor was encouraging, but didn't show many options for adapting the moves to my fitness level. There wasn't much cool down or stretching at the end either.

Not one to back down, I doggedly hung in there, but I way over did! Now my thighs are twitchy, my knees are sore, and I can hardly move! I'll see how I feel tomorrow before I decide whether to try it again...if I live!

I agree with Marty. The trainer may not have been knowledgeable enough an instructor! Hang in there! You're going to find your niche. emoticon

Kettlebells are good workout, though. I tried a class once & it ended up being more floor exercises that actual kettebells, so I bought a DVD & did my workouts at home. Then I could go at my own pace. You never know what kind of class you're going to get at the gym (depends on what the instructor likes to do, I guess). Kudos for trying something knew . . . keep up the good work!

Wow! When I entered 45 minutes of kettle bell training in my fitness tracker it said I burned 900 calories! I don't believe it, but it looks good.

And thanks Renata, but I'm not going back to school at my age, I'm going back to my job as a school counselor after summer break:)
