Still Running!

Thursday, August 08, 2013

I did my 10k at the end of July, but then I just kept on going!

...11.5 miles this am, pushing Eliza in the stroller! It wasn't easy but then, it sure was easier than labor!

Why you ask? Because I signed up for my first half marathon- it is on September 15th- which also happens to be my 30th birthday! emoticon

I am struggling a little bit to find the right balance of what to eat, if I should eat, and how much to drink on these long runs. I die of thirst but then I get a cramp if I drink, so it is going to be some trial and error before the race. I am SUPER excited but also really nervous! I dream about running at night! I think I have fallen in love...

I have another race coming up this weekend too, a mud and chocolate trail run (a nice 4.5 miles, we can count it as my "speed" workout!) and I joined this running group in my neighborhood! I have only been to one of the meet ups so far but it was a BLAST!

11.5 miles, wohoo!! A half marathon will be a piece of cake for you emoticon Good luck figuring out your eating & drinking while running. It is a vey personal thing but once you get it right you'll feel great on your long runs. Personally, I like GU and an electrolyte / water mix. But, my husband uses chomps so to each his own emoticon

So exciting! I did a half in April and found those gels and jelly beans to be really helpful. I liked the vanilla gu (tastes like frosting) but I have friends who didn't like them as much. They were easy to carry (I purchased a bag from Dick's to keep around my waist to hold my goodies) and gave energy without being too heavy. I also found the Bondiband I bought to be super helpful! It kept sweat & hair out of my face-and in cold runs, can also keep the ears warm.

    Good luck!

Sounds great! Definitely work out your hydration and refueling before the race and stick with what works during the race! Race day is not a good time to mess around with your food or hydration, and a HM is probably too long to go without either (for many people).

I love running with my little work out partners when I can! My two smallest are 30 months and 16 months and I run with them in the double jogger when I can. Will you run with your little one in the HM? When I trained for a marathon a few years ago, I did most of my training runs with my (now) oldest and our dog, but I didn't race with them.

    Good luck!
