MORE OF MEAGANNE'S GORGEOUS CAKES!

Friday, August 16, 2013

Here are some of the latest of my wonderful, youngest offspring's creations. She has never had any instruction at all on cake decorating, yet she just keeps turning out these gorgeous cakes !

Meaganne lives with constant chronic pain in her neck, back, hands and feet as the result of a spinal injury she incurred during a gym class in grade 8 - she was 13 years old when it happened - so decorating is not easy for her. After spending close to 15 hours ( off and on over about a 30 hour period) doing The Hulk cake this past weekend, she couldn't open or close her hands without a great deal more pain than usual, for the entire next day.

She is an artist at heart, but has real problems holding paintbrushes, markers, crayons etc. for long enough to complete a picture, so you can probably imagine that cake decorating is not easy for her either, yet she still does them - mostly for those she loves and cares about.

Cake for a school fundraiser where my older DD is a teacher - Easter 2013. It ended up being raffled off for over $150 , which was more than any of the other cakes went for!

This is a " Skylander Portal " cake ( from a video game that my son's kids play, and that we had never hear of before) for GS Zach's 6th birthday April /13 . Meaganne found a small picture of the portal on the internet, and used that for her design. The entire portal is covered and hand piped with butter cream icing, NOT fondant!

This is "Coach " style purse cake for my older son's daughter's 15 the birthday in May /13 Brittany is all about 'bling' and brand names , so the base of the cake board had real nail polishes, rings, necklaces, and some lipstick look alikes that were actually pens, scattered all around the cake.

This was a Sunflower cake for my older DD to take as her contribution to her staff end of the school party - June /13. Unfortunately, Meaganne didn't realize that the camera wasn't focusing properly, so the perspective is just a tad off..... She saw Buddy Valastro - aka ' The Cake Boss" from the TV show of the same name, showing someone how to do the sunflowers on cupcakes on one of the episodes of the show. This is Meganne's interpretation of that, but on an actual cake.

This is the cake she just made for my older son's 5 year old's birthday a few days ago. Cooper asked Aunty Meags if she could bake him a " Chocolatey and something else too cake of The Hulk or maybe that other really, really big red guy who isn't The Hulk "..... ( one of the characteres from the Fantastic Four, apparently) She hand sculpted the Hand out of rice krispie treats, then covered it with fondant - which she makes herself, too . The other images on the right of the picture are what she hand painted all around the sides of both layers.

Hope you are as impressed with her skills as I am - and no I am NOT at all biased about her , not one little bit! emoticon emoticon emoticon

She's so talented! I've told her more than once she should start her own cake business. She could do as much or as little work as she felt up to doing, and she'd earn a little money. And the $150 raised for the easter cake proves I'm right!

**Hugs** to you, and tell Meags I said hi!!

emoticon , Kathy, tell her I said she does wonderful work.

We have a niece who is doing cakes and she charges a fortune for them.
I would have to taste one of Meaganne's to see how good it is. LOL

Those cakes are beautiful! She could work at any bakery! (if making them wasn't so painful for her.)

I hope she finds a job soon. I am having issues at work right now, and when friends and family hear about them, they tell me I should find a new job. There just aren't many jobs out there right now, and no matter how stressful my current job is, at least I'm employed. So while I dream of opening up my own kennel/dog training facility, this is the job that pays the bills and buys the collies their kibble!

Yes, we still do dog shows. Because of my illness last year, we didn't attend too many shows. But our youngest collie, from our second litter, just turned a year old in May. So we are working on getting her to shows right now. (Her littermate, Captain, already finished his championship and he is now up in Canada working on his Canadian championship!)

What an awesome display of her talent. Baskin Robbins could make good use of her artwork. Well Done, Meaganne. emoticon emoticon
