---------------DO NOT READ IF SQUEAMISH---------------------
---
During the 20's, UK & US women were confronted with a new weight loss solution, which came in form of sanitzed jars of tapeworms. Advertised specifically as a dieting aid, these parasites were hailed as the way forward with one advertisement going so far as to claim, "no diet, no baths, no excersise. Fat-the enemy that is shortening your life-banished! How? With sanitized tapeworms-jar packed!"
However what had been hailed to be the perfect dieting solution was eventually discovered to be extremely dangerous to one's health. Those who ingested these parasitic critters soon began to exhibit some unpleasant & potentially serious symptoms, including weakness, nausea, diarrhea, fever, cysts & even seisures! Needless to say, the tapeworm diet was far more likely to shorten one's life rather than prolong it!

I have seen some of those tapeworms as we would get the person in the hospital and we would have to get them "expelled" from the person. A couple were several feet long!! Not a pleasant sight, for sure!!! Thanks for the history on wacky diets!!

i'D SEEN THIS AT A MUSEUM YEARS AGO & THOUGHT i WOULD FIND IT FOR YOU ALL. THIS WAS IN A QUIZ ABOUT DIETING.
I THINK I WILL JUST STRUGGLE ALONG WITH LESS HORRID METHODS LIKE WALKING & EATING 1 PLATE OF FOOD INSTEAD OF 2!!!
