Yesterday, the Beyond The Scale challenge began. I was so excited, I let myself get swept back into disordered eating. Whoops.
Today continued to be a challenge for me, so I decided that I needed to sit down and lay out my own personal goals for this challenge. Yesterday, my team blogged about several action words, and today I will utilize some of those action words.
I am not trying to lose much weight during this challenge. What I am trying to do is make some healthy improvements to my lifestyle. If weight loss happens, it will be happy icing. I cannot focus on weight loss in and of itself (I realize that this is weird). When I focus on weight loss, I spiral down into meal skipping, unhealthy behaviors and attitudes, and unhappiness.
To tell you the truth, there is a big part of me that wants to focus on the pounds. And I'm not sure if I can make it through the challenge without completely slipping back to my old ways. I fell for the first two days. But I can pick myself back up and try again.
My current 4 goals for this challenge are increased physical fitness, increased fruit and veg consumption, utilizing Spark support, and eating regular meals.
1. Physical Fitness
I would like to work on my Achilles tendon issues to see how I can make improvements. I will work on icing, stretching, and strengthening. I would really like to be able to run again. Since that will be a long and slow process, I will focus on getting to the gym for pool classes, biking, and strength exercises as well.
2. Increased Fruit and Veg
Winter is a hard time for fruit and veg, but I want to be eating 5 a day by the end of the challenge without even thinking about it (second nature).
3. Utilizing Spark
There are so many great people on this site. I really want to encourage others and get help from others. I will check in with my team regularly, blog every once in a while, and spend time stalking other Spark friends and former teammates around the site.
4. Regular Meals
I don't really want to add this as a goal, but it is one that has to happen. My dietitian really wants me to eat three meals and one or two snacks a day. I will work on this throughout the challenge.
I can do this. We can do this!
