Subbing

Thursday, January 16, 2014

So, I am a music teacher. Private lessons, band, choir, general music, I do it all. And I love it. Love, love, love, love it! Of course, nothing beats the blessing of being able to stay at home with my kids when they were little, but the youngest is in preschool, soon to be in school full time, so I've started subbing a lot more, and looking for something more permanent.

There's a big difference in teachers out there. Not in effectiveness, necessarily, though there is that, too. But just in style. I subbed one day for a teacher where I didn't even find his lesson plans until about 3 min. before the first class walked in! I spent 25 min. frantically searching his incredibly cluttered and messy room!

Today I subbed for my soul mate in terms of teaching style. Everything was completely organized. Not just the stuff I needed for the day. The whole room. Everything. It made my heart happy just walking in!! emoticon

I know that there are many amazing teachers out there who are organizational nightmares, and neatniks that can't teach if their life depends on it. From what I saw from the kids today, though, this one can teach. I sure hope I get to sub for her again - so easy! - and that when I get back into the classroom she'll let me come take notes on her system!
