Time to ask for help

My training sessions at the gym came to an end 3 weeks ago. When I began training, it was my goal to continue exercising on my own when this day came, but instead I find that I'm struggling with it.

It was much easier having someone push me, but the time has come for me to push myself. I need to revert to those good habits that got me this far, like batch cooking on weekends and exercising from monday to friday. I know I have it in me, but it's challenging right now.

I recognize that it's time for me to ask for help.

    Never forget that no matter who helped pushed you, it was always you that accomplished everything. Every single drop of sweat that you shed was because of the effort you put into it. You're powerful and you're your own best inspiration. It looks like you've been less active lately, which I can only imagine might mean you've been struggling.     I find that even though the trainer is a great experience, with learning and doing, it's also sometimes a codependent relationship. Instead of doing it for you (even though you are), you're doing it more because you gave your word and your money and don't want to let them down. Now that it's not a responsibility to the trainer and to get your money's worth, it becomes less of a goal....as if you're not being held accountable like you were when you had scheduled session. But now is the time to look within yourself and say this is for me. It's so I can be healthier, it's so I can feel more joy. It can be all about "me" and it not be selfish. I think some of us feel guilty if we make ourselves a priority. For those who are clueless and self-absorbed, this is nothing new and it can be hurtful to others if they take it too far, but I feel like I have to exercise so I can play with my son, or walk without problems if I have to park miles away from a crowded venue, and to just feel better.
    This is your life, and you have to put yourself on the top of the to-do list of life. I like to think about the airplane safety talk. "if the cabin pressure changes, an oxygen mask will fall from the overhead compartment. If someone needs your assistance, PUT YOUR MASK ON FIRST, then help them." You can help others, but remember to also take care of you.

    You are a strong woman, and you will find your way back to the path of self awareness and self love. emoticon

    Pick a time during the day where you are most likely to have the time to workout and make exercising at that time part of your routine. I do mornings and there have been many mornings when the last thing I want to do is roll out of bed and workout but I feel like I can't start my day until I've exercised.

    Change in routine can be really hard but I know you know how to do it. It will take some getting used to but I am sure you have it within you to push yourself just as hard if not harder than when you had that extra voice pushing you.

    Find some music that will get the blood flowing and go for it! You will surprise yourself on what you can do!

    Try something that challenges you. Do you like to run? I find that for me training for something pushes me on (examples include the Bridge to 10K app on my phone, or working with the Insanity program). I find that I am really motivated to push myself further if I have a goal I know I have to break through every week.

    It'll take a while to adjust to a new routine. Try finding a work out buddy. I go in the mornings because I know I'm not going to be even half as motivated after work. Sometimes I don't want to be there but half the battle is to just go. To stay motivated I of course use sparkpeople but I also find Instagram to be really inspiring alot of times. I like people on their journeys and I post mine. It gives me a little boost when I get likes and encouragement from people. emoticon emoticon

    Find some kind of exercise that you love to do. If you are not passionate about it, you won't be motivated to do it. If you are still going to the gym, try different equipment, try different classes. While you are searching for your passion, you will be burning calories. A lot of people mentioned on here that it takes time to make your exercise a habit. That is true, but you also need to like it so that you stick with it. You deserve to like what your doing. It shouldn't be a punishment. Now that the weather is good, you could try walking, running, hiking, biking. find an "obsession". Good luck in your search.

    You can do it. It takes time to adjust when the routine changes. I found I was struggling a little while ago so I wrote out my workout schedule each day. I found it helped me to have a plan to follow just as I would have if a personal trainer had planned it for me.

    It is hard to do but once you get to the point that exercise becomes a part of your life it becomes easier. It took me about 2-3 months of 6 day weeks working out to have it become part of my life. I used these two sayings in my head everyday when I first started out, might be silly but it worked. ''Just Do It" and If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always got". You can do it!

    I also have trouble pushing myself in the gym week after week. I decided to keep my trainer and consider the money my gift to myself. It is expensive, but sometimes we are allowed to have a luxury.

    I also schedule my main workout first thing in the morning that way no matter what comes my way during the day I at least have one good workout done for the day. Just keep trying different times and you'll find the one that works best for you.

    I begin to think about how far I've come and it helps keep me focused and then I know I don't want to go back to where I've come from. I've maintained for a year and I'm back at it now - sometimes we do stray. I just make sure I don't totally give up. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

    emoticon find a at home DVD thats loaded with fun and challenge yourself. For me it's learning the Hula and Zumba I'm having a blast challenging myself and getting a great work out.

    Maybe you can listen to a recording of something motivational, or some great workout tunes. Make a vision board collage and include pictures and quotes that fire you up. Or maybe sign up for a 5K or 10K and then that can push you toward reaching your training goals. Go get 'em Tiger!

    It takes a while to build a habit. I schedule exercise first thing early in the morning five days a week. It is now a habit after 40 years. Be patient with yourself.

    These phases do pass as we come to solutions after each pause. Just keep moving forward in some way until a new exercise regimen forms for you. Maybe increments of walking while watching TV or 10 minute periods of different videos on SP. You'll see that you will find something even better.
