Day 46: It's A Lifestyle Change

Thursday, July 24, 2014

One of the most irritating things that I have come across on my healthy lifestyle journey is the food watchers. You know the people who like to comment about whether or not you can eat that. I know that some may mean well, but others do it just to make you feel bad and so they can gloat about you not sticking to healthy eating.

I have learned to not let their comments get to me. I know that some people don’t mean it to be rude, but sometimes we need to learn that asking if you can have that is really not an appropriate question to ask anyone. It doesn’t matter if I can or can’t have it because the answer will not affect you in any way.

As part of my ever evolving healthy lifestyle journey, I am starting to change myself for the better. I like to use the word diet like its definition, as we all are on a diet as that is what the food we eat is properly referred to as. No longer does it mean a short term period of my life where I starve myself to get to a certain size or weight in a certain amount of time, only for all the weight to come back plus more. My diet is the meals that I prepare for myself each day to keep my body nourished and properly running so that I can get through the day.

I am going to be sure to not let the negative comments make or break my success in changing my life. It’s a lifestyle change. There is no stopping point. When I reach a milestone, it only means that I will set another one to achieve. I will never stop or let others deter me from my goals. I am going to make this change no matter.

Those food police can be such a pain but you have the right attitude. Haters gotta hate.

I love your definition of diet; it is so true, we all have a diet, some healthy, some not, most of us a mixed bag.
I don't have many food police people in my life, thankfully! I do know people who are very self satisfied with whatever form of exercise they pick, or whatever dietary restriction they follow (vegan, low-carb, etc.) I try not to let it get to me, but it is like the person who is size 6 complaining they feel "fat", sometimes you want to shake them! My better self just smiles and thinks "life is about balance...."
    Loved your blog.

Oh, you are talking about the food police, right? The people that even though you have successfully managed to lose however much weight and work your butt off exercising (while they sit around doing nothing), and you decide to have the planned treat of the day that either fits in your calories (or even if it doesn't and you are giving yourself a break for the week) they give you that "look". Soooo irritating....

Ignore them, we can't be perfect with our diet 365 days a year. Just keep pushing ahead to your goal.
