Whole30ing – Day 8 (Monday)

Monday, August 11, 2014

Wow! Day 8! Week two…. I have gotten into a groove in what I can eat and what to have for meals. Issue is trying to get those foods…..

If there was ever a day I wanted to stress eat, it would be today. Right now in MA, NH and ME there is a major grocery store boycott involving 71 stores and of course there are 3 of them in my city of 60,000 and I shop at one of them. Not getting into details, it is now very, very hard to grocery shop. The other grocery chains are mobbed and it is insane. I would not go to one of the other grocery stores this past Saturday because it was so bad last Saturday. I actually went to Target to get any canned/paper goods etc and the farmer’s market for fruits and veggies. DH hits up the meat market on Saturdays for the weekend stuff so I increased his list with the stuff I would normally buy at the grocery store for the week.

Today I needed a few things for dinner because I changed the menu. Oh such a bad idea! Even on a Monday afternoon it was totally packed and not a pleasant experience. I walked through the bakery department and my eyes lit up at all the things I wanted to grab and chow down because I was so upset. This is the first time since starting Whole30 that I had to majorly restrain myself from filling my cart with very bad things. I didn’t, which is good, but there is much work to be done to get my mind away from food when I am upset. I just hope this boycott thing resolves itself soon.

What I ate on Day 8:

2 eggs
Turkey sausage, 2 oz (almost…one of my dogs asked for a piece and I obliged)

Ground beef, carrots, onions, swiss chard and diced tomatoes sauteed together
1 cup of grapes

Chicken cutlet (coated with egg and almond flour sauteed in olive oil)
Tomato slices
Arugula salad with lemon juice and olive oil dressing
Brussel sprouts, roasted

1 c. blueberries
1 tablespoon almond butter

Thanks for stopping by my blog and for your enouragement and support. I so appreicate it.

Enjoyed visiting your page, too, and learning about Whole30. I hadn't heard of it, but it seems to use some sound practices regarding whole foods and good nutrition. Still change is never easy, and you are doing it. Wishing for you to be a tower of strength every single day!

Farmers Market is probably the better option anyway.
    Congrats on Day 8!
Today's Day 9 for me too.

My daughter lives in Mass so I know about the "fight".

On Day 8 you did GREAT!

I understand what you mean about having "work to do" regarding eating when upset and stressed. But you ACKNOWLEDGED your feelings and were able to resist, so you did very well! It doesn't matter if you looked at the junk or even thought about putting it in your cart...you didn't, so congratulations on a job emoticon

It's funny, I grew up in MA and all of my family is still there, I cannot tell you where 1 Market Basket store is. I had never even heard of it before I read about the bocott. I would stick with the Farmers Market for the season. Nothing like fresh fruit and veggies!
