New Beginnings

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

A little over 4 weeks ago I "snapped". I had been feeling down and out for several months at least (probably much longer than that). I was in general not happy with anything in my life and felt like I was losing control of everything. After sitting and talking with my husband at length that Sunday afternoon, I really dug deep and figured out that everything that I thought was wrong with my life really started with me not being happy with myself.

When I was in my late teens-early 20s I ate healthy and exercised regularly to maintain my already-healthy weight. Once I got married my husband and I went out to eat more than we ate at home (and so many times eating at home was carry out). This continued over the next 8 years. I slowly gained 55 pounds that I really didn't need or want, but I didn't really know how to change it while cooking for 2 now (my husband would not have been happy with how I ate when single). So we kept doing what we were doing and kept gaining weight.

So when I snapped about 4 weeks ago and realized what had been wrong with me for so long, I decided it was time for some big changes. I had heard about Sparkpeople several times over the last year or so and it came up in an internet search again that day. I knew that I needed a guide to help me change my ways and that I couldn't just wing it. With the help of the SP recipes, nutrition/fitness trackers, and of course the teams, both my husband and I have lost the most weight we ever have in our lives! Currently my husband is about 20 pounds down and I am going on 12! We are both feeling so much better physically and mentally. I feel happy again and look forward to what the future brings!

Every day I am amazed at how much my physical condition was affecting my emotions and overall mental condition. Since losing some weight and making these healthy changes and seeing and feeling the benefits, I have no intentions of going back to the way I used to eat (both of us are really enjoying the new recipes I am making). I have my resolve back to do what is right for my body and look forward to getting healthier and enjoying many more years with my family to come!
