Oops. . .lost track!

I think this must have been a more stressful week than I had anticipated. The kids balked at school all week, and we've had some glory moments, but few and far between. I lost sight of my goals and ate a half loaf of raisin bread with butter at lunch today, completely not counting any calories.

I've been meaning to set some goals for October. The kids and I sat down and outlined some "Family Goals." I've determined to clean out of our house anything that doesn't help us toward those goals. They look something like this:

1. Exhibit the fruit of the Spirit.
2. Get an education.
3. Do other activities to develop brain and interests so that we can. . .
4. . . . be ready to do the job God has for us later in life.
5. Develop relationships with each other and other Christians.
6. Keep our bodies fit.

The kids seemed encouraged after I said that yes, running around in the yard would further our goals, since that would help keep our bodies fit.

I also made a "Not Our Goals" list. It was as follows:

1. Have fun.
2. Have an easy time of it.

While they groaned when I said this, they seemed encouraged when I said that we could have fun together if we pursued the "goals" list. (I'm trying to fight the entitlement attitudes that keep creeping back in.) So we started sorting in my room, which doubles as a sewing center. They had fun organizing all the craft supplies. . . and found a lot of things to craft with that they didn't know existed. I think I'm going to do some hard-core clean-out when they're asleep, looking for areas that they tend to fight over, or areas where I find them shirking duties to sneak away for some brainless pursuits. Hmmm. . . might take a while!
