Ounce by ounce, inch by inch...

I used to follow a Spark member who called himself the slowest loser. I think that I may have replaced him. In 2013 I lost a total of 5 pounds. that's right. 5. This year I am down about 11 - just over a pound a month. Not that I am complaining... I am actually quite pleased that I have gotten rid of this much. 4 more pounds and I will be back to my original 40 pound loss. And then I can start on "new weight". It is not easy, this losing weight. In my 20's, 10 pounds in 2 weeks was kind a normal crash diet. In my 30's it didn't work so well... Now in my 60's, every pound is hard won.

But here's the thing. I am NOT on a diet. I am eating sensibly. I am also getting more exercise on a regular basis than I have since high school, when I walked everywhere. Now don't get me wrong. I'd LOVE to wake up tomorrow 50 pounds thinner. But it doesn't happen that way, and there is no "skinny fairy" to wave a wand.

I am so close to "One-derland", that I can almost taste it! I'm hoping it happens before I leave on vacation. It's really just a number, and yet is signifies a victory to so many of us. Years ago when I weighed 193, my doctor (FORMER) referred to me as a 200- pound woman, and I was SO offended. Now I have been here for so long that I am immune to it. But I SWEAR I will not be going back up this time. This time is forever. I owe it to myself.

I CAN do this. And so can YOU..

    Slow but sure wins the race! I've been struggling this last year too but think I've finally found my motivation. I want to loose 45 lbs and realized that loosing 1 lb a week will get me there in a years time so it's 1 pound a week which takes a lot of hard work but it's attainable and maintainable. I'm heading back to onederland too...We'll meet up there!

    I know exactly what you are talking about Patti. I use to be able to loose the pounds much easier when I was young too and now that I am in my 60s it sure is hard. I have virtually stood still in my weight loss during this past year due to all of the medical things I have had going on. But my focus is different now that I am older. Just like you it is more about enjoying life and being more healthy little by little. I am sooooo looking forward to 2015!
