I'm Getting There

It took me a really long time to really get serious, but a diagnosis of diabetes in August 2014 did it for me. I have currently lost 41 lbs, and only have another 32 to lose to make first long term goal - to reach Onederland. This long-time couch potato is now a committed walker. I currently walk 30 minutes twice a day during the workweek (before work and during my lunch break) and at least 30 minutes on the weekends. And I'm doing this while working full-time AND caring for my mother who has Alzheimer's and lives with me. I think one of the biggest "helpers" for me is using an app to log walks. Only to recently realize that I can do the same thing using SparkPeople!
It makes me feel good to hear my daughter say she is proud of me - and to have her sometimes join me, sometimes with her daughter, too, for my walk on the weekend. It feels really good to be able to buy clothes 3 sizes smaller - and they fit! Now that I am finally serious (I want to watch my 5-year-old granddaughter grow up - with all of my body parts), I know I can make this happen. As an added bonus, I saw my ex-husband in November, and he noticed I had lost weight!

    Welcome to SparkPeople. We are all here for the same reason, no matter what our personal story is. We are here to help each other to get to that healthy point we want to be in our lives. It is not going to be easy, but it is attainable. I have found that changing things up is the way to start weight loss. Make small goals and they will lead to big successes. You have to make you #1 and tell yourself that you are worth it. If you don't take care of yourself you can't take care of anyone else. You can do it! We are here to help!
