First 5K for 2015!

Sunday, January 04, 2015

So, I decided to run the Racin' In The New Year 5K after reading NIKKICOLE83's blog. I really wanted to stay in bed since it was going to rain. Thanks for the inspiration! I woke up & looked out the window. It was raining. I started praying. Lord, please, please, stop this rain. You know I really want to do this run but I don't think I can handle running in the rain. Not that I haven't run in the rain before, but this would've been my first race running in the rain. Anyhoo, my prayers were answered & the rain stopped. God is good! I accomplished a PR (personal record) for this 5K! And guess what? It started raining again as soon as I finished! LOL God has a sense of humor. I'm slow, but it's my race, my pace. I tell my running buddies that I run slower than a snail on crunches, but I run! I haven't really ran with my running group since Lauren's death. I'll rather run alone. I've had several of my friends invite me to run with them, but I feel as though I'll slow them down, so I run on my own (with Lauren), and sometimes with my hubby. I'm getting faster so maybe I'll join them soon.

I'm trying to do a race or two every month. I'm signed up for a 10K next month. I think I'm going to sign up for my first marathon that's in Oct. I'm sorta scared because my body might decide not to function right like it did for the half marathon. I have spinal issues that affect my right leg in the worst way. It tingles, burns, & and knee doesn't want to bend. I want to just stop running when that happens, but I'm not a quitter, so I endure the pain. I've tried a steroid shot & it didn't help me at all. It only raised my blood sugar level. I tried Lyrica & it didn't help. It was so expensive! I wanted a money back guarantee! I've been told that back surgery might be needed. I don't think so! I've heard more horror stories than success stories.

I hope everyone is having a safe & great weekend! Stay focused!

I am so very proud of you!! You prayed that rain away, honty!! I know it must be hard to do these races without your running buddy, Lauren, but I am certain that her spirit pushes you along when the runs get tough.

I have a 10k in March that I am not looking forward to, mostly because I need new shoes. I plan on ordering some this week.

Sugar, congrats on your first 5K of 2014!! You are awesome!!!

I hope you feel able to run with your group again soon. I am so touched that you are running with (and for) your friend Lauren. I bet your group would never say you slow them down, I bet they would love to have your company!

We are doing our first half marathon of the year in Jackson, MS next Saturday and are hoping to do one in Lake Village, AR on February 14. I too love the motivation of doing multiple races a year, it keeps us training, right??

    Happy Sunday to you!!!
