OMG... The Calories in Fast Food

Monday, February 23, 2015

DH and I decided to cheat from our usual healthy homemade breakfast and decided on Jack in the Box. I had a half of the loaded breakfast sandwich, half of an extreme sausage sandwich minus the bread, and a hashbrown. (I originally wanted a breakfast bowl, but they no longer serve them)

I looked up the nutrition facts on their site and omg... I looked up what hubby ate and for the amount he ate lets just say, severely artery clogging; the numbers nearly gave me chest pains!!! Now I already knew that I was overdoing it and indulging but after seeing the numbers it got me thinking...its amazing how one can think they are eating a modest amount of food, but the way its prepared and what is added can mean BIG changes in the health value.

Needless to say, to stay in my calorie range for today my remaining meals will have to be light! HIIT workout, here I come.

Seems like all restaurants are like that today. Back in October I met my nephew and his wife in Bangor and we went to Longhorn. I looked over the menu and finally settled on the 6 oz tenderloin with mushrooms, string beans and a baked potato instead of the potato gratin. I dodged a big bullet with the gratin, it was 570 calories, but who knew that a 6 oz steak would be over 1000 calories, 1275 to be exact, luckly the beans were only 30 calories but the total was what I eat for the whole day not one meal. My nephews wife had the larger tenderloin steak and the gratin with french onion soup to start, that was over 3000 calories. No wonder people are overweight. I wish more places would put calories right on the menu, sometimes you really get blindsided with the amount of calories.

It's amazing how much fat ,sodium and calories are in most fast foods. My daughter and I each had a salad and half a sandwich at Panera's and split a carrot cupcake. I looked it up to add it to my tracker, the 1/2 a carrot cupcake was more calories than my sandwich.Yikes!! I too when the light route the rest of the day. emoticon

It is always shocking, esp after you've been tracking. Atleast you have the whole day to work it off and eat better! emoticon

Those breakfasts at the chains look great, but leave my day trying to make up for it.

Shocking, isn't it? Last week we did a higher than normal intake of fast food because DD (who is chief cook and bottle washer) had a lot to do and just didn't feel like adding cooking to that - needless to say it showed up on the scale! emoticon
