Ideas for exercise

For most of my life I have had memberships at various gyms around the city. I am currently a member of a gym down the street from me. The problem I have with this is that in the beginning I go but then eventually I stop going for months on end and there goes my money down the drain. Sometimes I pick myself up and go again only to stop going again. I figured with the gym down the street from me I would have no excuses but I still managed to find some. I did go back in March once only to get sick the next day with a cold so that did not work out either.

Although I do enjoy the gym classes like zumba and latino dancing I am on a bit of a tight budget and would rather not spend my money on another membership, especially if I stop going down the road. I am looking for other ideas which will either cost nothing or very little. I am open to joining groups.

I do not run, rollerblade, swim well, or cycle so all of those are off limits. I can only walk on city sidewalks for a couple of hours because of my foot problems. We have a mountain in the city where I can go with plenty of inclines and stairs but it can be a bit of a trek to get to in the colder weather. However, there are winter activities there too like skating, skiing, and snowshoeing.

I am looking for ideas that will not cost me much and that I can do with a group. I used to do videos and I have a stationary bike but I cannot do this on my own and I do not have any exercise buddies that could keep me accountable.

I will look for some meetup groups that I can join but sometimes they can be costly too but will keep my eyes open.

I would like to know what you all do for exercise. On the weekends I ski or hike so it is more during the week and in between seasons that I need ideas.

    Have you found a YMCA or YWCA in your town? They often have gym facilities at very reduced prices compared to gyms. I took a swimming class as an adult, having spent most of my life swimming on my back because I had trouble with the alternate breathing thing - finally learned to swim with my face in the water! Also took water aerobics class, which might be great for you since it takes the impact off your feet.

    Keep looking, you'll find the right combination of cardio for yourself!

    You mentioned videos... I love Jessica Smith on YouTube. She has all sorts of videos, many based on walking but with more moves, etc.

    Walking is an excellent way to lose weight! Maybe you could make your daily goal walking to the gym? Perhaps once you are there, you'll go in & use it? :)
