Don't Always Believe What You Think

Saturday, May 09, 2015

Recently I have been ill. Not being on Spark for some time got me to thinking, "I don't need to be on Spark anymore. I am doing okay with it."

I sincerely thought I was doing okay.

Well, what I thought is NOT true. My husband told me, "Have you listened to how you are talking about yourself lately? You are not happy with yourself. You criticize yourself immediately after I give you a compliment."

He woke me up. I need my Spark Friends to keep me out of my stinking thinking. My Spark Friends help me to see the beauty in life. Yes, to see the uniqueness of me. To think and talk positive about myself because of all my Spark Friends' positive feedback. Yes, I do need Spark, because of all the friends and how willing they are to give of themself. No, I should not always believe what I am thinking.

Me, too! I've been sick, and my mood plummets more and more the longer it continues. Spark friends help keep me from falling too deep into the well. Thanks for articulating this so well!

No man (or woman) is an island unto himself/herself. God designed us as relational beings, with Him first and others second. He also designed us in His likeness and image that we might think, speak and act like Him. For you to fully embrace all these relational benefits you must believe them and receive them for yourself. Others can bolster you up but they can never fully change what goes on inside of you. It is as a man (woman) thinks in his heart, so is he/she. (Proverbs 23:7) If you change your thinking you will change your feelings. Renew your mind to the Word of God and you will see yourself as the beautiful person that He designed and created you to be. Enjoy being you, Sharon! You are the apple of God's eye (Deut. 32:10 & Ps. 17:8) and a blessing to those around you!

I'm convinced that from Creation through today, we are designed to be in relationship with other people and that this is not truly optional. In my first sermon I said, and I still am convinced it is true: Solid relationships with God, each other, and the rest of Creation are the "Rosetta Stone" of the Scriptures. And I do not mean to refer to the language learning programs, but the actual stone which allowed French "moderns" of the 29th century to begin translating Egyptian hieroglyphics.

Relationships are important, and we need a support base. For Christians, this is plainly spelled out from the Gospels through The Apocalypse. There are no lone ranger Christians, and other humans who isolate themselves from others generally provide no earthly good to them and they suffer for it needlessly.

I'm glad you've got someone (esp'ly your hubby) who can tell you the truth in love; outside of SparkPeople too? Wow. You've got resources galore. Rejoice!

Well tell him to give you a high five.. Yes we are more critical of ourselves and be our worst enemy.. so keep looking at that person and smile because we are made in His image and I think I am OK with that.. I am a Plain Jane and seldom wear makeup and hate shopping... My husband will go shopping and buys my clothes.. That is pitiful so You know I am not that rare find that they look for but I am a good person and so are you.. We need you and you need us... So I am glad your back.. Happy Mothers Day...
