So... I've never blogged before.

I'm a very private person, so it feels unnatural to write about anything personal and then post it to the internet. But they say that the more involved you are with something, the more likely you'll stick with it, so we'll see how it goes. emoticon

I need an exercise routine. I like routines. Routines are good. I know what to expect with a routine. The problem is that I'm lazy. I get tired, and then I can't motivate myself to get up and do anything.

I make goals. And then I completely ignore them (even the ones that I really want! WTH?). How on earth do I make a goal and achieve it when I'm so darn lazy? Maybe I'm lacking accountability. Maybe I need to make my goals public so that other people will know if I achieve it or fail to get off my arse and get moving.

Thus, blogging.

So, my goal is: To Run (/jog/walk) the Beat The Blerch (Virtual) 10K the weekend of September 12-13.

I've not been jogging in months. So I've got some training to do. I do not expect to be able to run (read: jog) the entire 10K, but I do plan to be able to jog/walk it.

My plan, to start with:

Walk/jog 3 days a week at least 30 minutes. Mostly in the evenings, but possibly in the mornings on the weekends.
Do the strength training DVDs from Jillian Michaels' Body Revolution 4x week. Weekday mornings.
Yoga at least once per week (I used to have a daily yoga routine, but that fell apart and my body is really feeling the lack of flexibility.)

The plan is to blog daily - or nearly so - with my completed exercises.

there are lots of couch-to-10k if you need help setting up a running routine

and lots of free videos on Spark (there is a Pilates workout that I like so much I ordered the DVD)

as far as the blogging...I'm not the best at that either. When I have something to say, I'll say it. It is interesting to go back and read through past blogs and try to remember where my head was at the time.

I suspect many would say they blog for themselves. It's about what supports you and your process. Putting our thoughts to a blog can help clarify our thinking and process leading to greater self awareness that often promotes success.

As an introvert I hear you about blogging feeling unnatural. For me, it is downright scary! I took the leap and it is supporting me and my process. So, I continue to do it, when I feel moved to do so.

When I first joined Spark I did not get involved with the SparkCommunity - no teams, no message board posts, no SparkPage, nada! It was easy for me to allow life circumstances to pull me away from what I was attempting to do here. I had no connections here.

When I returned over 3 years later, I connected with the community. My experience this time and my ability to achieve the goals set for myself have been vastly improved and successful beyond my wildest dreams!

So, congrats to you on writing your first blog and may you be successful in achieving your goals!

    Welcome to Blogging!

    One tiny word of advice...flexibility.

I should have said a few words of advice so I could explain myself better.

Be gentle and flexible with yourself when it comes to blogging. Don't worry about creating the perfect blog, or even telling too much. You can delete and edit and block comments or users. You have all the power in giving these messages.

The stuff about reaching goals and being lazy could have been written by me, so I feel ya there! The trick is to allow the excitement of consistency to pull me through the lazy parts...I have triggers that mean I MUST MOVE. And when I am feeling laziest of all, I move like a zombie until I can move like a Thor.

Something like this: CRAP, the timer...gggrrhuugghhhgrrr...hmmm...
loo loo loo...and then I'm zipping around my office in circles for 5 minutes. Imagine me grunting then humming...then singing! Then I sit until the timer goes off again.

Glad you're home, safe and sound!

Leesa thanks for sharing! It is hard to write what one is feeling. You are now making yourself accountable and that is a good thing!! You know emoticon and I know that you will!! emoticon

Great plan, make the choice to follow that plan, don't do what you want to do at the moment, do what you said you would do, be committed to yourself and your plan.

Easier said than done. I struggle with the same things! I am really getting involved with spark this time and it helps!
