Ketogenesis and the Mysteries of Attraction

No, they don't have anything to do with each other! I recently found a group on Facebook called Banting. I was curious because I knew that a Dr. Banting was the founder of low-carb eating. It was the only way he managed to lose weight, mostly by eliminating sugar and other high-carb items, mostly starchy things. So I joined the group, which happens to be based in South Africa. This provides a little confusion, not only with metric measurements but with some of the products they have available there. But there basic ideas rang true to me, since nothing I've tried recently has worked. I'm eating pretty drastically low carb, but with an emphasis on healthy real food including lots of green veggies. My problem is that my birthday is less than 2 weeks away and I plan to have some great dinners at at least 3 places.

Which brings me to the other subject: Daniel, whom I did the 2 long cruises with recently, will be here for 3 weeks starting next Wednesday. Neither of us expected this to happen, but we've become really attracted to each other. Thing is, I look at him objectively and I don't see where this comes from. I think if we were walking down a street neither one of us would even notice the other. But we got to know each other and it looks like we'll try to see where this goes. He's in FL and I'm in NC, but it's not really that long a trip. I hope it goes well when he's here, as he had some issues with anger before we parted. I think it will be a lot less stressful since we don't have the exhaustion of a long cruise and very long flight complicated by lots of jet lag. And he's acknowledged that he has a lot to work on. As I'm sure do I. We are old and hopefully somewhat mature and obviously enjoy some of the same things, so I'm at least cautiously optimistic. Plus, he's very handy and I will be putting him to work on several things in my townhouse!

He lives in Port Richey, Sharon. Trader Joe's has great all-beef hot dogs and apple-smoked bacon, both uncured. It will be tough eating this way with all the birthday stuff, but I'll at least try to keep the carbs down. He gets here this afternoon. Hope the oppressive heat won't last too long!

I have been low carb Paleo for a long time and it is the only thing that works for me.
I was a follower of Atkins when low carb was being ridiculed. It's amazing how many different plans really have branched off from his original thinking..

The meats I eat are mostly grass fed and organic. I found some grass fed hot dogs even at Kroger. They have had the best selection and prices I have found around town.

I hope you have a wonderful three weeks while Daniel is here. What part of FL is he from??

    Have Fun!

I do the uncured bacon and such too. I am not certain if they are considered processed, If they are they are minimally processed. I have the same reaction with too many carbs. I am doing much better lately. I lose 11 pounds in May and have kept them off. I have plateaued. I should be losing but I'm not.

I so hope this works out. You are, in my opinion, quite a catch. I hope he is worth someone as special as you.

Thanks! I don't do much in the way of processed foods and haven't for a while. I will do some Applegate Farms or similar in hot dogs and salami and stuff like that, and my favorite uncured apple-smoked bacon! Don't know if they count as processed. I was happy that my weight was down this morning. I take it as a sign that bloating is going away. I was up after the brunch on Sunday where I ate way more carbs than are good for me, the evidence of which was my falling asleep soon after.

Yeah, Daniel is basically a good guy. He's funny and smart and says I'm "one hell of a woman". I'm not sure why, but I'll take it. There have been very few men who see what I think of as the "real me". We have been very honest with each other and I'm very comfortable around him. I'm glad we met the way we did and had time to let things develop. So much different than meeting someone through a dating site and deciding immediately whether or not they're suitable. Six days till he gets here!

Sounds like you are serious about healthy eating. I'm also trying to move slowly away from processed foods. I know I will always have some but hopefully they will be minimally processed. I can't imagine life without mustard. LOL. We seem to always go off plan some on special occasions and holidays. I don't worry about it much any more.

I hope things do work out with Daniel. My type as a young adult was nothing like my type when I reached my 30s. After my first marriage I was done with bad boys and looking for someone with morals, values, integrity, a sense of humor, loyalty, intelligence. It wasn't until I was away from my ex that I saw him as the true jerk that he was. A Neanderthal. When I regrouped, a lot of my friends and family were shocked and later encouraged by my new type. I found my hubby who is the perfect fit for me. He is not perfect but he neither am I. When things are right, you will know it.
