Had a marvelous time but by the same token it is super good to be home too. Back to my own bed, my own shower, my house (dusty though it was after two weeks!), my clingy poor CAT! She had visitors three times a day but you'd think we were brutalizing her. Silly thing.
As I had decided (with a little wobble in decision just before vacation) I ate anything I wanted. I do mean ANYTHING. Any food, any frosty beverage, anything. As you can imagine the scale shows it. But it was my choice or a once in a lifetime trip. Now it's time to be back on program.
In other news, I have a surprise. I did not talk about it prior, but I also quit smoking. I thought two weeks was a great period of time to be out of my normal habit, away from all the triggers. So as we headed out I stubbed out my last cigarette.
Of course, as we hiked through Europe I realized how much more smoking is prevalent there. Rick and I joked with each other "who's bright idea was it to quit smoking in EUROPE?" over and over. But I didn't waver. I came home cigarette free and on a good path.
I have so much news. I don't want to slam it all into one book-sized blog. So maybe I'll stretch it out in bits and pieces over the next month or so. Who knows. I am of the firm belief we should all write for ourselves, and if others enjoy it and come along for the ride that's great. If not, that's ok too!
Our flight was delayed half a day out of JFK. Thank goodness I created a day of buffer before the ship just for this situation. Also thank goodness I chose to be frugal on the hotel in Copenhagen, because frankly we spent more time on the flight than sleeping in that hotel! Couldn't resist a photo to show how tiny the room was. You could barely get past the end of the bed, but it was clean and comfortable and they honored my request for a quiet corner. I'd honestly stay there again (Hotel Opera). My overbite is really showing in this photo and I am fresh out of the shower with soaking wet hair. Very attractive Dawn (said in my mother's voice).
We were still up early (after going to bed at 2:30 AM local time) for some sightseeing before boarding the ship. Gorgeous. Just gorgeous. You'd think I was a postcard photographer. The photos took themselves!
And my husband's obligatory one photo a day on vacation. See, he really detests photos. But on vacation he agrees to let me take ONE photo of him a day. Needless to say I search for all kinds of ways to wiggle more photos in. I'm not above asking fellow travelers to snap photos of us on the sly. Rick knows very well what I'm doing, but it's our little game and it works for us.
It didn't happen till the END of vacation (because we returned to Copenhagen and took in the city that day as well) but I'd be remiss if I did not include the Little Mermaid statue. I got some great shots, but this is the one I was SO disappointed in, but then made me laugh. May we all have grace and dignity with...a bird on our heads.
I'm back! I'm launching back into program! I have ZERO regrets about my choices and promise not to whine. That choice was then...I'm ready to make my choices now. *claps hands eagerly* Who's with me???
(What on earth happened to very super shy sparker from July? Where did she go??? I like this me better!)
