NOT THE WAY I WANTED TO GET TO ONEDERVILLE

Monday, October 12, 2015

Guess what? I weighed myself the other day, and I am down to 197.1 pounds. That sounds good, doesn't it? Over the past several months I have lost a total of 43 pounds. However, I didn't intend to do it this way.

I was diagnosed with lung cancer in May of 2015. Did not expect to see that coming.
When I was first diagnosed, I weighed 240 pounds. I found that I had trouble eating as much as I used to. It has been a tough few months. I had surgery on August 7 and had 2/3 of my right lung and two ribs removed. The surgery went well, and I am pretty much healed My doctor is confident he was able to get all the cancer, but I still have to have 16 weeks of chemo. I have been gradually losing more and more weight.

I had my first chemo treatment on September 30. It took 7 hours. I felt good after the treatment and did well throughout the week. However, on October 6 I got sick and I was asked to come in to the hospital for a check up. After a bunch of blood work I was diagnosed with low potassium levels, high white blood cell count and a urinary tract infection. The doctor gave me several prescriptions, and my chemo was cancelled for October 7. I was weighed on September 29 before I began my chemo, and I weighed 210 pounds, which means I had already lost 30 pounds. Over the last two weeks I have lost another 13 pounds as I was unable to eat properly.

I will be speaking to a Cancer Care Nutritionist on Thursday when I have my chemo. Hopefully she can give me some advise as to what I should be eating to make sure I get all the proper nutrition I require. I don't necessarily need to eat more, just foods with more nutrition. Hopefully this will help. I know I need to lose more weight, but I would rather lose it by eating well and getting more exercise than through illness. Just taking one day at a time.

My Dear Darlene, I know I responded to this post quite a long time ago but wanted you to know I have been thinking about you and always have kept you in my heart and in my prayers. emoticon

You are missed more than you will ever know. I haven't forgotten the day we met way back in October 2012 when I travelled to Toronto for my Dad's 90th Birthday, we stopped in Winnipeg and we met with our other beloved friend Dorothy who is now with Jesus. We had such an awesome time together visiting and sharing...I long for those days when we will be reconnected once again. I still have and wear the lovely Angel Pin you gave me when we stopped in the Christmas Store in The Forks Mall...What a special time it was...I realise you had surgery in 2015 and I hope you are doing much better these days...Please keep in touch Darlene, I emoticon as a matter of fact we all miss you here on SP...

Take care and know you are always remembered & kept close in prayer... emoticon emoticon

Just want you to know I am praying and continue to keep you in much prayer my friend, I am so sorry I missed this post, for some reason I didn't get a prompt that a new post had come in from you. I have re-checked the box stating I want to be notified so I won't miss anymore of your posts. Hope you were able to speak with a Cancer Care Specialist and get all the info you need for a proper diet while taking Chemotherapy, it isn't easy being on this schedule of treatments and for sure my prayers are with you that you won't have any of the side affects and you will stay strong during each scheduled session. You have gone through so much and continue but what stands out is your positive attitude and your caring and thoughtful nature, you Shine for Jesus wherever you go, that is evident on our Teams you are co-leading with me, for this I thank God always, what a blessing you are to me and to all who come along your path.
