It's Not All About The Scale

Friday, January 15, 2016

I couldn't weigh myself this week because I need to get a new scale and I can't get it until next week. However, I found something interesting happening to me. I am not at all worried about what the scale is going to reveal. I normally would be, and I would be waiting to see if I could pat myself on the back, or say screw it, I knew I didn't lose any, why do I bother. This time is different. I have tracked my food every day for the past 7 days, and I have kept to my calorie range without any trouble. I know for sure that I have lost some weight because of the way I FEEL. I feel better, I feel healthier, less tired, and I can move around with at least slightly less pain in my leg. After falling down a flight of stairs many years ago, the arthritis I have in my ankle, knee and hip is quite severe. Walking is terribly painful, and I am hopeful that losing weight is going to improve this greatly.Anyway, I just wanted to share that its not all about the number on the scale. Its about how you FEEL!!!

I always say that the scale is a liar anyways. I weigh in once a week and that's good enough. Like you, I know when I'm feeling better and that's really good enough. It can be a bummer once in awhile but things are always better in the end. It's so hard when it's hard to walk. I still have problems with that. One reason why I love the pool. When I started I had to use the walker to get there. Now I don't use it but still have problems walking. Right now I'm using a bike in the gym because I can't put any pressure on my knees, ankles or hips. It's working for me. All you can do is do what you can and try to do a little more. Have a good weekend.

Thank you for this post. You are absolutely right! Changing habits and feeling better is a victory in itself and this was a reminder for me that we don't always need the scale to notice a difference.

Taking body measurements is a great way to see the difference & can be more reliable than the scales. Hope your new scales are calibrated the same as your old ones.

Non-Scale Victories (how you feel, how clothes fit, etc.) are just as important as the numbers on the scale! The scale is not always a true reflection. emoticon emoticon

You've got the right idea. Don't depend so much on it.
