Hello SparkPeople!

Saturday, February 06, 2016

My introduction to Spark People came from a Dietitian that had in the past helped me on a weight loss journey. I was successful then, however a husband on life-support derailed anything I was doing for myself and put me on the path of go to work, go to the hospital or Nursing Home or take care of the nursing needs when he came home. That was 4 1/2 years ago. If only I maintained what I had lost instead of existing and making do and not taking care of myself.

I have been trying to get back on track for the past few months, started before Thanksgiving and just can't really get in the groove of what I need to do. When you need to make so many changes it is overwhelming to make any at all, when you see what you can do is not good enough.

I had started to watch my steps in November and I have set a goal of 6,000 steps for myself over the winter with the plan to move to 10,000 steps once it is warm enough to be outside walking. That was going well till I ended up in the hospital a few weeks ago so the doctors could rule out having a stroke. Yes, that was ruled out (thank you Jesus) but my left arm and hand is still numb. That is a bit concerning. I rest a lot right now, so I am not getting my steps in. I rethought it and feel if I can get anything over 1,000 steps at the moment that will just have to do for now, till I am stronger.

I joined Spark People to use the Nutrition tracker. I might even give the meals of the day a try. I am also increasing my water intake for my goal this week. I do need to watch my water consumption at times due to gastric dumping. Ever see a dog chase it's tail? That is me trying to get a hold of good health and the right way to go. I believe this program will let me take control of that, even if it is small goals for now--it is all I can do and that has to count for something right?

This is him on life support in October 2011--

OMG what a trial of fire you've had. How is husband now? I couldn't think straight if that happened to my husband. Any chance your numbness is carpel tunnel syndrome? Small changes can snowball into big changes. You're getting healthy regardless

You do the best you can with what you've got and, little by little, it will add up. I hope your recovery is swift and complete. You got this!
