Winter 5% Challenge Recap
Sunday, February 28, 2016
I know I planned on meeting my goal of losing 5% of my weight during the Winter 5% challenge, but I must say that I am a bit surprised that I did it. I 5.6% of my weight during the eight week challenge. I've never made a weight loss goal before so I wasn't entirely sure I could do it.
I did not weigh myself for years. I had tried losing weight several times and failed so I guess I decided it wasn't for me. Two years ago my work schedule got nutty and in response I made a plan of what to eat every day for breakfast and lunch. My routine meals happened to be healthy ones. The lunches I had been eating were more junk than food. After I got settled into my routine an acquaintance asked if I had weight. My pants weren't feeling that great so I had been thinking they were getting too small. That night when I went home I realized that the pants I was worrying were getting to small were decidedly too big.
I joined Spark People the next day. I figured since I had clearly lost weight maybe I could keep doing it. I kept up losing weight but I never met the goals that Spark People prompted me to set. I'm so glad that I learned about the 5% Challenge. I participated for the first time in the fall. I didn't reach my goal, but I lost more weight than I had in months. I really love the community and the nudges towards healthy habits. In the fall focusing on tracking helped me realize that i could happily reduce my nightly ice cream portion. In the winter challenge the no evening eating challenge helped me change my views on night time eating.
As soon as I hit my 5% I set a new goal of 5% and gave myself nine weeks to meet it. I am excited for the spring challenge to begin, but I sure will challenge myself to continue in the meantime! If you are interested in joining here's the link.
