What A Week!

We have had a crazy past 7 days. Last Thursday, there was a shooting in our neighborhood. My daughter was away at work on the same street as the shooting happened. I freaked out and texted her. She answered right away that she was safe. We live 2 blocks from the high school my daughter graduated from last year. Then the news came in that the victim was a teen boy. My son was home with me but I had this nagging feeling that we knew the kid somehow. We didn't hear anything else that night.
Daughter and I were walking home from the gym the following day. The gym is between the high school and us. The news truck stopped to ask if we'd heard the name of the kid who was shot. He was a senior at the high school and fighting for his life in the hospital. The shooter (and 2 friends) had gotten away. We still didn't know his name. We went home and daughter started getting ready for work. She ran into my room and held out her phone. That guy who was fighting to stay alive was one of her good friends. She hung out in the same group as him all through high school. His best friend lives next door to us.
The following day, my daughter heard all this bashing of her friend. They said he was a bad kid and that's what bad kids get. It was assumed that he was street racing and all that. None of those things were true and the lies hurt my daughter. It was a random drive-by shooting while him and his girlfriend were on their way home from eating out. He graduates next year, was supposed to have prom last weekend, and just turned 18.
We donated money to his medical bills and went to his candlelight vigil the other night. They still haven't found the shooter and my daughter's friend is making small improvements each day.
Then I had a bunch of calls with case managers and teachers regarding my son and his classes. My work as piled up. My aunt moved to town last weekend and I met her for the first time ever! I'm not to fond of her and she caused drama the first 24 hrs she was here. Then my mom had heart surgery today. She's okay and is at home now.
Why am I blogging about this? Because it has taken a lot of strength to take care of me! But I am! I actually had to nap today and will go to the gym later. I've mostly eaten healthy and have worked out as often as I could this past week. I'm doing this! I'm being healthy even when chaos and sadness hits us.
