Day 544...crazy days, and a request.
Wednesday, May 04, 2016
The past two days have been crazy at work. I'm a professional fundraiser, and yesterday was supposed to be a day of giving, where people were encouraged to give to local nonprofits in their area, all on the same day. All using the same website. Nationwide. In 50+ communities.
When that website goes down 2.5 hours into an 18 hour day, and never comes back reliably, it's a bad day at the office. There was very little we could do but be frustrated alongside our donors and our local foundation, which organized the event. It wasn't the foundation's fault...since everyone around the country using that same website system was down.
It's a very sad thing. Thousands of non profit organizations counted on yesterday for a serious boost in fundraising for the year. Budgets, programs, services, even jobs, relied on yesterday, and one company, whose website service couldn't handle it, caused all of those to be impacted. People were counting on yesterday, and it just didn't happen.
So, I ask that if you read this, think about the non profits that make a difference in your life, and consider making a gift to them. The need is still there, whether it's an organized day of giving event or not. Some communities continued their campaigns into today, some (like mine) did not. Regardless, think about those non profits today that impact your life, and consider making a gift. It really can make a difference. You'll certainly make a fundraiser like myself a little bit happier if you choose to do so...as there are thousands of us who have had a couple of really bad days.
All that said...my exercise streak is unbroken, and I'm still tracking all of my food. I'm on day 544 of my exercise streak now, which means I'm over 1.5 years now. That's a very cool thing. Finding the positives...
